It really fills my heart when a client sends me a pic of her dress in action.
This lovely lady requested an off-shoulder fitted bodice/full skirt style for her son’s wedding last week.
Made in a structured silver based brocade from (excellent range/customer service).
Lined with a heavy duchess satin lining, so no boning was required in the bodice to hold the garment in place.
And pockets obvs.

This year has been a big one for occasionwear commissions…hence the lack of posts. They take a long time to produce and I respectfully don’t post until the occasion has passed.

A more elevated version of the Ottoline worker jacket.

Made in a vibrant turquoise cotton mix, in a vain attempt to reduce my bulging fabric stash (didn’t even make a dent).

Because of the open weave nature of the fabric, I interfaced each piece, giving it a good jackety stability.
The pattern is for an unlined jacket but I went ahead and lined it anyway, using a gold brocade duvet cover (??) purchased for a few groats from a charity shop. There was acres of this leftover so my attempt to reduce my fabric pile turned out to be in vain.

Originally wanted white topstitching which I felt looked an arse, so out came the seam ripper and redid in an ochre denim thread.
Coordinates well with the huge gold metal poppers methinks.
Last pic shows the original denim version I made last summer, which I’ve worn over and over. Cost per wear and all that…

Another 1930s style dress in a beautiful retro print from
For a very loyal customer of mine, for whom I made a silk long sleeve version recently.

Original vintage buttons and buckle, with handworked eyelets and belt loops.

A complex, yet easy to follow pattern by . Although it’s an unlined dress pattern I added a full lining, which I feel gives a garment more body and longevity.

Yesterday my client wore this to get married in.

Made in a Lovely champagne coloured corded lace from with full swishy skirt and b***d bodice.

Champagne satin under layer plus a satin lining: Basically 3 dresses in one.

As it was her intention to wear her grandmothers pearl necklace, I added a vintage mother of pearl button at the back neck to complement her jewellery.
Another happy client 👏👏

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate this Bloody Lovely chair.
Originally a Bloody Lovely Chair from but with a very plain oatmeal covering.
Client wanted to pimp the cushions with a cotton linen mix printed abstract ‘pakko’ fabric from .
And it gave me a good excuse use the air compressor staple gun which is never a bad thing.
Now much goovier don’t you think?

This was quite the unconventional wedding attire request, but no less delightful and fun to do.
All made for a wedding to be held in Switzerland.

A 5m long olive green velvet cape, satin lined with brass effect chain closure.

And 10 coordinating satin sashes for the grooms ushers and groomsmen, whose job it was to hold the cape whilst he journeyed down the aisle to his awaiting bride to be.

It was a real privilege to work with such a fun and lovely couple: I do so love an unconventional wedding.

Modern rework of a 1930s style dress made from which was easy to follow and was updated with metric measurements (none of this crazy impossible imperial business).
My client supplied the silk fabric in lovely soft taupy tones. Fully lined in lightweight silk.

I made a few modifications such as inserting a side zip instead of buttons which my client felt were far too fiddly to manipulate. She also requested an inverted pleat at the back bodice for more ease of movement.

A lovely job to do with lots of mindful hand sewing involved.
But no pockets in this one.

A little heirloom and much treasured nursing chair in proper need of a loving glow-up.

The old pink dralon covering was stripped along with eleventy million staples and years of dust and horsehair stuffing.
Following a good old vac and clean it was treated with new padding, fire retardant scarlet velvet fabric and another eleventy million staples.

The perfect place for a little bear from Peru

First big project of the year: dozens and dozens of costumes requiring a ton of alterations, repairs and embellishments for for their Midland Theatre Ballet production of ‘12 dancing princesses’.

My very supportive husband drove me to Birmingham and back in order to for me to undergo the process of pinning the young dancers into their costumes and providing much needed manly muscle to hump all the bags into the car for the drive back to Leeds for me to proceed with the work.

It’s a fast and frantic process, involving fast creative decision making and pinnings (without causing injury). No mean feat, what with me suffering with raging sciatica at the time.

All costumes needed to be dealt with in a way which can be reversed for future use, so no cutting and with easily unpickable stitching.

My son can now have his room (costume storage facility) back now that the swans, bees, sax players, princesses etc etc have all gone home to Birmingham.
I may have to do some explaining about the sequins/glitter embedded into his carpet when he returns from uni.
