Acta non Verba. Deeds not words.

In this collection, a medieval bestiary climbs over plush tapestries, and half seen creatures are screenprinted directly into deadstock fabrics. This process allows some of the original texture and pattern of the textile to remain, showcasing the history of the material and suggesting the scars that the wearer has endured. Accessories and fastenings are constructed from chainmail, punctuated with orange rubber O-rings which add a futuristic element to their construction. Cosy wool knits are sourced from charity outlets and are savaged and pulled apart, only to be reconstructed, repurposed and made anew. These salvaged fabrics are juxtaposed with bold, battle ready tartans which are layered and punctured to create sumptuous textures.

“Mala Tempora Currunt”, “Sunt Lacrimae Rerum”. These are wicked times, these things make us cry.
Sacramental Beasts is inspired by the idea of armour and self-preservation in a hostile world. Seeing the current pandemic, ecological, and political crises around the world as akin to the struggles of the Dark Ages; this collection utilises Christian and medieval imagery to create garments which reimagine the role of superstition as armour. Models are enshrouded in hard panels, flowing kilts, chainmail and rope, creating silhouettes which suggest holy paladins on a crusade.

The constant contrast reflects a mood of dystopic warfare through its pattern clash; and madness is exemplified in its construction.

The desire to defend ourselves and others is genderless, and Sacramental Beasts reflects this as a nonbinary collection. The garments are adjustable to allow for variation between different sizes and genders; thus ensuring the garments fit multiple body types, and promoting inclusivity within the fashion industry. The aspect of putting on these garments becomes a sacrament in itself. As bonds are tightened, the clothes become a perfect fit and the wearer is enclosed and armoured against outside influence.

It genuinely felt so amazing seeing work that I have done come down the catwalk. It was an epic yet chaotic experience. I'd never even been to a fashion show before, and I used to have a tendency to not finish projects. So to fight my way to the degree show with three finished outfits was pretty weird! Thanks to and my amazing tutors and everyone for making it happen! Next stop, Graduate Fashion Week!
