A Beacon on the Hill: The Monastery of Saint Nectarios, Aegina 🇬🇷
Nestled on a hill just a few kilometers from the port of Aegina stands the awe-inspiring Holy Trinity Monastery, one of the largest Orthodox monasteries in the entire Balkans.
This sacred site is dedicated to Saint Nectarios of Aegina (1846–1920), a figure whose life story is as compelling as this view:
A Saint of Humility: Despite serving as the Metropolitan of Pentapolis, he endured unjust persecution and slander from his peers. He accepted his hardships with grace and humility, teaching at a seminary and later retiring to Aegina to found this very monastery.
The Great Miracle-Worker: He is widely known in the Orthodox Church as a miracle-worker, particularly celebrated for healing illnesses. Pilgrims travel from all over the world to venerate his relics.
A Modern Canonization: He was officially canonized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 1961, making him one of the most recently recognized saints in the Orthodox calendar.
The path to this sanctuary is one of history, devotion, and reflection. Whether you are coming to venerate the saint or simply to appreciate the profound history and stunning location, we believe every journey should be taken in comfort and with presence.
