This body of work was inspired by a quote from Laurel Thatcher Ulrich “Well behaved women do not make history” Why do well behaved women who behave in a socially acceptable way do not make the history books, but then with the names like Frances E W Harper only just coming into the light and becoming household names there must be a reason why. Why were women who behaved well, were not scandalous and who only dared to think and write about important social and political changes, movements and miss justices of the time were written out of history, Where scandalous women were allowed to remain in the history books? This started a feeling this was done to teach other women lessons to be quiet. As they were not always remembered favorably and often ridiculed. Even to the extent that for a long time in history women could be ordered by the courts to wear a scold's bridle for being outspoken. So my thought process led to a feeling it wasn’t just the naughty promiscuous women who made history. all women were hushed and silenced. This thought became a reflection on the voice of modern momen, how would katie Price mange a scold's bridle, these injustices of the past has given women there voice so thank god for gobby women. We as modern women stand proudly on their shoulder and need to continue speaking.
