18 months in the making...

I’m happy that finally I’m able to share this beautiful Mother of Groom hat that me and my client started designing in November 2019 ✨

She was wearing a gorgeous 1920s style beaded and tulle gown, and wanted a wide brimmed hat that needed to match the softness of the dress. I absolutely love the way it turned out, dreamy 😍

So lovely that weddings are happening again 🥰

A black baker boy hat with gold trim, the customer has added the gold double hat pin too for a bit of extra chain action & I’m here for it 🙌🏻

These hats are 100% wool with a leather peak, the chain and pins are gold plated. They come in brown, grey too!

If you’ve supported this little business of mine over the past year, then thank you!

Any money made in the past year has always gone into buying more stock, but this time I’ve been able to save enough to invest in these beautiful hat blocks. These babies don’t come cheap, and it’s hard as a milliner starting out to build up a collection but I’m SO excited with this lot!

It means I can start to offer more styles of hats created from scratch, I can learn more about this amazing craft along the way. Always learning!

Working on a very special commission involving gorgeous beadwork & lots of tulle which I think is my new favourite trim... dreamy!

Its lovely to have a project to focus on, it’s got my creative juices flowing and my mind working overtime (hello 5:30am 👋🏻). I really found it hard during lockdown to feel as creative. It’s such a good reminder that when you’re feeling unmotivated or overwhelmed, to just get started. Just do it. Be disciplined and the motivation and creativity will follow... anyone else find this?

is a day I will always recognise by thanking the universe for the amazing females who have raised me, shaped me and who continue to make my life better - friends, family, colleagues, clients! ⠀

But I feel a bit sad today. Sad at the statistics and the real life stories of how the pandemic has only widened gender inequality. Sad at how women continue to be tore down in the media. Sad at the narratives that pit us against each other. That perpetuate disbelief over listening to each other and believing our lived experiences.⠀
⠀
I guess this is why this years theme of is so important! And you know what, I see amazing people challenging gender bias all the time, in their words and their actions. They inspire me, make my heart full of hope & my head happy. Which you know is very important here at Thirty Nine Millinery ☺️⠀

On Monday it’s International Women’s Day and next Sunday is Mother’s Day, two days to celebrate the amazing women and mother figures in our lives, or celebrating being a mum yourself (of little humans or fur babies!) ⠀

My recent hat collection was named after inspirational woman.
⠀
This hat is named the HEDY celebrating a 1940s Hollywood actress Hedy Lamarr who changed the perception of what women were capable of, being a producer and an inventor. ⠀

I made as part of a mini top hat challenge 🎩⠀

Not quite a top hat shaped crown, but a mini hat all the same. I thought this quirky, bright pink shape needed a bold design so went with orange & black. Think I was inspired by the colours in my Space Ibiza opening poster I look at everyday when working! (swipe to see the poster & the in progress shots) 🪡 🧵 ⠀

When I set up Thirty Nine Millinery I wanted it to be accessible, approachable and friendly. Many a hat has been chatted about over a cuppa! ⠀

Creativity and having a bit of fun is really important to me too, millinery is still a sideline business to my full time job and so it needs to be creative, fun with room to experiment!
