The beginning - and end - of an era.

Legend has it that Jeff (bass, vocals) had over-partaken of the herb at a Brutal Truth / Cathedral show the night before recording the Heartwork demo, which led to his vocals sounding even more raspy than normal.

(The demo recordings are available on the Heartwork special edition set.)

Mid-90s Entombed Clandestine LS

Clandestine (1991) was Entombed’s second album and the only to not feature LG Petrov on vocals (due to an internal dispute). Despite this, Petrov has been on record saying Clandestine is his favorite Entombed album.

While the liner notes list Johnny Dordevic as the vocalist for the album, most or all the vocals were actually performed by Nicke Andersson (drummer) who also reworked the Entombed logo for Clandestine and put together the back cover of the album.

The album artwork for Clandestine (and Left Hand Path) was created by none other than the legendary Dan Seagrave who was responsible for many memorable 90s death metal album covers (Malevolent Creation, Dismember, Gorguts, Morbid Angel, Suffocation… and on and on).

the smell of plaguing infection

1990 Carcass Reek of Putrefaction SS

Carcass recorded Reek of Putrefaction (1988) over a period of four days at Ritch Bitch Studios in Birmingham (West Midlands, England).

Reportedly, the sound engineer did such a poor job that the original vinyl had to be pressed at lower volumes because the bass guitar was enveloping higher range sounds.

However, the resulting low-quality sound production of Reek of Putrefaction didn’t do anything to prevent the album from kicking off a whole new genre of metal.

The cover of Reek of Putrefaction was made up of a collage of actual autopsy photos from medical journals, and later re-releases of the album had censored artwork to ensure they made it to store shelves.

I’ve shared this all before but here goes:

The “screaming trees” Obituary artwork comes from the cover of an H. P. Lovecraft book, the original art of which was painted by Michael Whelan, an American artist who also did album artwork Demolition Hammer, Soulfly, Cirith Ungol, Meat Loaf, and others.

Sepultura was supposed to use this same artwork for their album "Beneath the Remains" but ended up going with a different Michael Whelan painting.

The artwork for this shirt was actually first used by Obituary for the Cause of Death album cover (though this shirt was made in The End Complete era) - you have to zoom in to see them (plus the trees have red eyes on CoD).
