RUBBER SOUL: THE BEATLES ALBUM THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING 🎸

When Rubber Soul landed on 3rd December 1965, The Beatles didn't just release another album… they changed the rules.

And the ripple effect is still being felt today.

From Brian Wilson, who famously said he didn't think Pet Sounds had bettered it, to Joni Mitchell, who played it “over and over”, the influence of Rubber Soul reached some of the biggest names in music.

• Elvis Costello heard a darker, more grown-up side of The Beatles.

• Roger Daltrey saw it as a major step in his musical journey.

• Grace Slick said it was the album that finally made her take The Beatles seriously.

• Art Garfunkel saw Rubber Soul and Revolver as the model for how an album could become an artistic entity in its own right.

• John Cale said The Beatles were a driving force behind The Velvet Underground.

• Steven Tyler was blown away by how quickly The Beatles had gone from She Loves You to the “trippy” Rubber Soul.

And then there's “Norwegian Wood”… a song that caught the attention of everyone from Joni Mitchell to Steven Tyler — and apparently even annoyed Bob Dylan who reportedly thought it sounded suspiciously close to his own songwriting style — a rivalry that may have inspired his later song ‘4th Time Around’.

Even Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham described Rubber Soul as:

“the album that changed the musical world…”

And you know what? He had a point.

Rubber Soul was the moment that development became impossible to ignore.

Acoustic guitars. Indian instrumentation. More personal lyrics. Darker themes. A completely different approach to the album as a whole.

🕊️ IMAGINE...

The John Lennon statue on Penny Lane is going under the hammer on 29th September, and it’s been given an estimate of £70,000–£100,000.

If you’ve been down Penny Lane over the last few years, you’ll know the statue. It’s become part of the place — thousands of Beatles fans from all over the world have stopped for a photo with John 📷

And there’s a nice bit of history behind it too. The statue was created by the late artist Laura Lian and was only originally meant to stay outside St Barnabas Church for six months. Four years later, it’s still there.

It’s been damaged, had its glasses nicked, survived all the weather Liverpool can throw at it… and now it’s being sold!

The original bronze statue will be replaced with a replica, so thankfully John isn’t disappearing from Penny Lane.

What do you reckon it’ll actually sell for? 👀
£100k? More? Less?

One thing’s for sure — whoever ends up owning it will have a proper piece of modern Beatles history.

🛍 And if you’re in Liverpool following in the footsteps of The Beatles, come and see us on Mathew Street. We’ve got one of the biggest selections of official Beatles merchandise anywhere in the city. Or if you're closer to the capital, our sister store is not to be missed - London Beatles Store 231-233 Baker Street, Liverpool L2 6RR.

ANDREAS KISSER TAKES ON “HELTER SKELTER” AT THE CAVERN CLUB! 🔥🎸

Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser brings his unmistakable heavy-rock sound to one of The Beatles’ most ferocious songs during International Beatleweek 2026 in Liverpool, Andreas Kisser joined Brazilian Beatles tribute band Clube Big Beatles for a very special performance at the legendary Cavern Club.

“Helter Skelter” has long been regarded as one of the most influential and hard-hitting tracks in Beatles history. Hearing it played by a guitarist from one of Brazil’s greatest metal bands makes for a brilliant meeting of Beatles history, rock 'n' roll and heavy metal. 🤘

Andreas Kisser has a long-standing connection with The Beatles and Clube Big Beatles, making his return to Liverpool during Beatleweek 2026 particularly special.

Beatlemania is still going strong — even across the Atlantic! 🇺🇸🇬🇧

We loved seeing this story about a brand-new Beatles fan club at Penn State University in America, which has already attracted over 42 members in its first month! 🥁

The club, founded by student Zoe DePaul, is bringing together Beatles fans of all kinds — from those who know every album inside out to newcomers just discovering the magic of John, Paul, George & Ringo.

Their plans include Beatles listening parties, album debates, movie nights, arts and crafts, and exploring the band's incredible musical and cultural history.

And from Liverpool — the birthplace of The Beatles — to London and all the way to Pennsylvania, it's fantastic to see new generations continuing to discover the Fab Four. 🌍❤️

After more than six decades, the Beatles' music is still creating friendships, conversations and new fans around the world.

That's something worth celebrating! ✌️

THE DAY THE BEATLES MET THE BYRDS — AND THE FBI TURNED UP! 👀

1st September 1965. Los Angeles.

The Beatles had just finished their North American tour, and before their flight back to England that evening, George Harrison and Paul McCartney made a surprise visit to The Byrds at Columbia Recording Studio.

The Byrds were recording Bob Dylan’s The Times They Are A-Changin’ when George arrived first.

Apparently, having a Beatle watching through the studio window didn't exactly help their nerves! 😄

Then Paul turned up in a black limousine, chased by dozens of cars and fans, and joined George in the control room.

But behind the scenes, something rather more dramatic was happening…

The FBI were reportedly on their way to the studio, following an investigation involving hashish that had been left on an earlier transatlantic flight.

Derek Taylor — the legendary Beatles publicist who was now working with The Byrds — realised that having The Beatles and The Byrds caught up in a potential drugs investigation could be disastrous.

His solution?

He took the FBI agent to a nearby bar and kept him occupied over drinks. 🍸

Then, under the pretence of going to the bathroom, Taylor dashed back to the studio and warned everyone to get out!

George and Paul slipped away through a side door with The Byrds, headed to Benedict Canyon, and later flew back to London.

Imagine being outside that studio in Hollywood in 1965… and watching George Harrison and Paul McCartney make a secret escape!

These are the stories that make collecting Beatles memorabilia and 1960s music history so fascinating — behind every photograph, record and piece of memorabilia, there can be an incredible story.
