How tricky is velvet 😬!?

I love dreaming up the concept for this!
I was asked to design something to mark the end of the Somerset House ice rink this year, my mind went straight to theatre drama 🎭 cue rich red velvet - not my best friend - and a grand reveal.

The texture is inspired by the scratches left by skates on ice, which led me to sew ultra-long stitching lines right across the velvet.

The lettering on the curtain spells out a farewell message and is hand-embroidered using grey-silver cords, beads and sequins (huge credit to the incredibly talented .l.izard ✨).
I created a peek-a-boo reveal, by dyeing a long piece of silk in a dusky ombré from pink to orange, and embroidered palm tree and sunset details over the top...it's a little hint at holidays to come this year.

A little bonus detail… I found this mesmerising gold and red shimmering houndstooth fabric for the lining - a subtle nod to Vivienne Westwood! Fun fact: the British fashion icon designed Virgin Atlantic’s flight attendants’ uniforms, with bold reds, sharp silhouettes and hints of houndstooth (see final pic for Viv’s flight attendant uniform design).

I told you it was going to be a big flag…!

For I wanted to design something that considers all the spectrum of identities within the LGBTQIA+ community. The colours flow into another following a wave design, symbolizing unity and interconnectedness.

Interwoven throughout the flag are printed, painted and hand embroidered love notes gathered throughout the summer. The messages express love, hope, resilience and the joys and struggles of being one’s authentic self.

It has been lovely to work on, the messages have been so touching and an important reminder of how much strength, bravery and love there is in our community !

I also had such an awesome day meeting the genius that is and being a small part of the joyous Heartstopper universe that she’s created ❤️

Wishing everyone an absolutely fantastic 2023 wherever you may be on life’s journey

We’ve managed to escape for a tiny break to the sun. Sneaked the final two makes of 2022 into the suitcase - a set of Japanese Hippari silk robes. What do you think?☀️

I hand dyed these and love the effects. Would definitely recommend making these gowns to lounge around in.

If you want to try making them I used the hippari pattern from .patterns

Love the wide sleeves : they have a cool elegant style about them ( 's I extended the length of the body to make it a longer robe)

I’m one year older today (Age is 🤫)

It’s a very busy time but these two have made me come out of the studio for a little while and are making me feel very special 🥰

My sister has also decided to make herself feel a bit special by finally taking lots of the dresses from the Great British Sewing Bee back to France (hence her slightly over dressed look for our back garden 🙃)

For ’s second Eurovision outfit I wanted to give a nod to the UK’s awesome Space Man entry.

The jacket is loosely based on the star trek uniform - I was thinking what Rylan might wear if he found himself captain of the USS Enterprise and I see him in this. (My brain works in odd ways 😅)

The gold “R” broche on the lapel is to replace the star ship enterprise badge that you see on characters uniforms. The broche was kindly made by my uber talented friend

The fabric used is 100% wool and has an amazing soft touch, surprisingly light and breezy too.

With Rylan wearing skinnies I wanted the jacket to be close to the body/well fitted.

Live long and prosper guys🖖🏼 (and enjoy the show tonight 8pm BBC1)

The last few weeks have been dedicated to this and a few other commissions. I have absolutely loved making all of them.

This is outfit one of four (more to show you soon!)
It features open sleeves to keep its owner fresh, a mandarin collar and I’ve hand stitched hooks for fastening.
I’m a lot smaller than the owner so check out how it should look when he’s wearing it on telly 😱
