Scrum by — for this project I got the chance to assist in bringing her wonderful designs to life.

I mostly helped breaking down the costumes, and contributing to the ‘used streetwear’ look. When aiming for a look like this, it makes total sense to work with materials that had a previous life. For instance the balaclava, which I made out of old fabric scraps. 📸

*radio silence ends*
When I started this blog, we were deep into lockdown. I had lots of time to redesign unwanted items of clothing every day, months on end, talking about our wastefulness when it comes to fast fashion. Thankfully, life has returned now and I decided to follow this passion even further by starting a career in costume (which isn’t anywhere near as sustainable as I would like it to be — but hey, we can only make a change if we start somewhere, right?). I will still post about upcycling projects, but not solely. I’ll try to showcase the projects I am working on. In the process of doing that, I hope to uncover and learn how to create great costumes in the most sustainable way. Things are about to change! Xx

Who doesn’t want a non-breathable and stiff jacket made out of plastic waste? In all honesty, this jacket is more of a statement thing than something for everyday use. But it’s still fun to know that some of the waste you create has a second lifetime. 📦📦📦

Just to prove my point from my previous post: I really DO LIKE to combine two things into one! I used to fray my clothes with razor blades, which is an awfully long and boring process...But why waste your time doing that if you can simply cut off your trousers and throw them in the washing machine? 🌪👖

I find combining two things into one is one of the best ways to upcycle. Not only does it (almost always!) look good, but it’s also super easy! ✂️

One way to get rid of stains is to properly clean your clothes (obviously!). That said, some stains are just too stubborn to get rid of. In that case, I find patching a great way to not only cover things up but also to give an old design a little upgrade. These dungarees were in a perfectly fine condition, except for one broken buckle. I simply wanted to fix it without having to buy a new one, so I dismounted the other buckle as well and made loops instead and then tied the straps. In order to visually make the contrast of these white loops work a bit better, I just put a white back pocket of an old denim trousers on the existing pocket. It doesn’t always require a lot of work to give used clothes a second chance! 💫

I had this pair of denim trousers which was slightly to tight. By taking idea to sew an A-shaped piece of fabric on either side, I not only made them bigger but also more colourful. Go and check out even more colourful designs!! 🙌🏼
