🧩 P L A Y ⚽️

From ages 0 to 4 there are 6 key stages of play...

Stage one : Unoccupied play - When your child begins to learn about how their own body moves, they make many movements their arms and legs, flapping their hands and banging their legs is a form of play for them 👐

Stage two : Solitary Play - At this stage they have no interest in playing with others.

Stage three : Spectator/ Onlooker - They are still uninterested in playing with others but begin to watch others playing together which is key to developing into co-operative play 👀

Stage Four : Parallel Play - Playing alongside or near others is identified as Parallel play, they still have no interest in playing ""with"" one another however will happily play nex t to them.

Stage Five : Associate Play - The stage right before Cooperative play is Assosiate play, a child will use the same play blocks or same swingset as another child however will be doing seperate things.

Stage Six : Cooperative Play - Finally, a child will develop skills to Cooperative Play. Playing with another child, interacting with the same toys and are both participating in the same activity/interest. 👯‍♀️

Let's talk about MOTOR SKILLS! 🖐

Early childhood development requires both fine and gross motor skills.

Fine motor skills involve movement of the smaller muscle groups in your child’s hands, fingers, and wrists. Develop these through playing with puzzles, pouring drinks or using pincers/tweezers. 🧩

Gross motor skills involve movement of the larger muscle groups, like the arms and legs. It’s these larger muscle groups that allow babies to sit up, turn over, crawl, and walk. Develop these through Dancing, Jumping or playing "Hop, skip, jump"🤸
