šØ BREAKING: A man just held his breath for 29 minutes ā longer than most dolphins and whales can!
It broke all world records (the average human maxes out between 30 and 90 seconds).
Croatian freediver Vitomir MariÄiÄ has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest voluntary breath-hold, staying underwater for a staggering 29 minutes and 3 seconds.
The record-breaking feat took place in June 2025 after MariÄiÄ inhaled pure oxygen for 10 minutes, dramatically boosting the oxygen levels in his blood.
This technique allowed him to sustain a breath-hold nearly five minutes longer than the previous record, surpassing even the diving capabilities of many marine mammals. MariÄiÄ used the attempt to draw attention to ocean conservation, reinforcing the connection between human performance and environmental stewardship.
Even without the aid of pure oxygen, MariÄiÄ is no stranger to extreme breath-holds, boasting a personal best of 10 minutes and 8 secondsāan elite achievement considering the average human maxes out between 30 and 90 seconds.
The current world record for unaided breath-holding stands at 11 minutes and 35 seconds, set by Serbiaās Branko Petrovic in 2014. With his latest feat, MariÄiÄ has not only pushed the boundaries of human endurance but also hinted that he may soon aim to surpass that unaided mark, all while using his platform to advocate for the health of the world's oceans.
