I feel happiest when I am surrounded by other kidney patients. There is something very special about being with people who understand the journey without needing an explanation.
As Vice Chair of the Royal Free Hospital Kidney Patients Association (RFHKPA), I was delighted to be part of the committee that organised our Garden Party, and what a day it was.
The turnout was incredible. In fact, so many people came that we could barely keep up with feeding everyone! But we managed, and then came the dancing.
We often hear jokes about “dad dancing”, but I can confirm there was plenty of “mum dancing” too and some very impressive moves from our kidney community.
Most importantly, people laughed, talked, danced and simply enjoyed being together. For a few hours, it wasn’t about appointments, dialysis, transplants, blood tests or hospital visits. It was about friendship, community and enjoying life.
And even the sun got the memo and came out for us. ☀️
What a wonderful day. Thank you to everyone who helped organise it, everyone who came along, and everyone who made it so memorable.
My heart was full.
Can’t wait for next year, although we may need more food. ❤️
