I SEE YOU

I see you, because I am you.

I am the woman who noticed the colourful, radiant, boldly dressed woman passing by.

I see you because I am the woman who wished I could be more fearless.

I see you because I know what it is like to wonder, what if…
I am laughed at?
I am judged?

I see you, because I am you
on the other side of, what if…

I will link the dress in my stories for you x

MIND THE GAP

I needed to have a bit of a rant today because, frankly, I think these payment arrangements are diabolical.

Living expenses are high and constantly rising, and that does not appear to be changing any time soon.

The idea that big corporate brands (because, more often than not, it is the big corporates) expect freelancers and small independent businesses to wait 60+ days to be paid for work that has already been delivered and used is, frankly, insanity to me.

Let me know what you think, particularly if you are a freelancer or run a small business. How long are you typically expected to wait to be paid?

If I could write a love letter to my clothes, perhaps it would simply say, thank you.

Thank you for allowing me to be whoever I choose to be.

For allowing my energy to enter a room before I do.

For leaving a little of my essence behind, even on the days when I choose to move incognito.

For being my armour on those oh so difficult days.

For saying the things I don’t always feel like saying myself.

As for blending in…
Thank you for never allowing me to do that.

Childless or Child-Free?

They are not the same thing.

One can describe a choice. The other can carry grief, circumstance and regret.

And yet, “Do you have children?” is still treated as one of those perfectly ordinary questions we can ask a woman we barely know.

At 60, people have finally stopped asking me when I’m going to have children.

Maybe the question isn’t whether it’s okay to ask.
Maybe the question is why we still feel the need to know.

When are we as women, simply existing - enough?

The Waiting Room

Today I bumped into an elderly neighbour of mine and she always asks me the same question:

“Have you found a nice young man to settle down with yet?”
I give her a wry smile and I chuckle.

She reminded me of my twenties, I was what would now be described as a “pick me.”

It was a time when we hadn’t yet broken free of the conditioning that told us our lives had no value unless they were attached to a man.

Society will always add more tokens to your basket if, (as Judge Judy would say) you’ve hitched your star to somebody else’s wagon.

My latest ‘single life’ has spanned seven or eight years now. I’ve stopped counting - because I realised it was no longer important.

Being single isn’t something I’m waiting to recover from.
My relationship status may change.
It may not.

Either way, my life isn’t sitting in a waiting room. And I’m yet to meet a man who has convinced me my single life needs fixing!

This comment initially made my heart sink because I was really so happy with the final look of yesterday’s reel.

Other content creators will know that it takes hours of planning, shooting and editing a video like that before you finally press share.

But after the initial deflation, I became cross.
I deleted the comment because my comment section is where my community of women share their most vulnerable selves and tell me how inspired they feel.

And I wasn’t allowing it to blot on my positivity section.

Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend ❤️

The Best Thing you can do at 60 is disappoint someone.

I know a lot of people who would be disappointed in the woman I am today.
Once upon a time, that would have devastated me.

Now - it feels triumphant!

People who I wanted so much to like me, to acknowledge me. Whose every need I catered for.

Then one day I looked in the mirror and I could no longer see myself. I had disappeared behind years of longing.

So if being your true authentic self means disappointing someone, then do it - today.

And don’t look back.
