Today is Animal and Human Rights Day! Both things close to my heart, it goes without saying really!
I want my shop to be helpful in aiding my customer’s wellbeing. I think art is a form of escapism, and I want my pieces to be that.
I am also a pet Walker and sitter - and absolutely love animals! If you watch this space you’ll see how I incorporate animals into my work also! 💕

Meet the Maker! I’m Lizzie, creator of Busy Lizzie. I’ve been creating art since 2015, specialising in textiles and acrylic painting. I have a degree in Costume for Theatre/ Film and TV from RADA and Bristol Old Vic.
Earlier this year, I went back to creating art after a busy few years of working backstage in theatre. I now work in a nursery and as an assistant art club teacher, alongside running my own pet sitting business and working Front of House! You can tell why I picked Busy Lizzie as my name (and it was my childhood nickname also!) I’m looking forward to the new venture with my art shop.

So what is Busy Lizzie?
Fairytales have always inspired me- I wasn’t raised on cartoon fairytales and haven’t seen much Disney (I am discovering it as an adult! 😄) but I slowly found the original GRIMMS Fairy Tales and various illustrators, as well as knowing the Ladybird books and finding Angela Carter’s feminist twists!
I love the illustrative and imaginative sides of fairytale art. I am a fan of fantasy so enjoy the wild and adventurous things that can be on the paper and elements you can mix and match.
I studied costume as I loved fantasy and period dramas, developing a particular interest in textiles and colour through making, design and dressing on productions.
I think all these ideas are prevalent in my work - colour, textiles, lord happening at once, confused varied ideas and imagination.
So Busy Lizzie was born!
I really want this to be an adventure for me as well as the customers. I want to keep learning about new fairytales and finding new ways to translate them into artwork and products to make people happy.
When I say fairytales, I include folklore, mythology, history, music and poetry, and just stories with a magical, or unusual element.
Stories are meant to be told and retold in different ways. I hope you like my retellings!
