🧷A living bio-ink that transforms printed media into regenerative, biodegradable art.

Petroleum-based inks are widely used, but they persist in the environment and add to plastic pollution.

GROWinK is a fungi-based ink that prints vivid designs while naturally biodegrading—enriching soil instead of polluting it.
Developed with fungal and bacterial pigments, the ink is adapted to CMYK printing and designed to break down when exposed to soil.

🧷 Discarded headscarves transformed into stadium seats — reclaiming a symbol of exclusion and turning it into empowerment.

Founded by Iranian-Australian designer .rezaei together with Christopher Krainer, the project merges circular material innovation with social activism. Over 500 donated scarves are pressed with waste plastic bags into durable composites, creating seats that embody resilience, memory, and defiance.

THE PROBLEM
We all know that blue-and-white porcelain tucked away in our parents’ or grandparents’ cupboards—full of memories, yet rarely used, often chipped, cracked, or incomplete.

THE SOLUTION
mmo.lan gives these forgotten pieces a new voice. Each plate is cut with precision using a water jet, then reassembled into sculptural vases with the help of 3D-printed joints. This isn’t about repairing what’s broken—it’s about transforming it into something entirely new. Nostalgia in motion, where fragments carry both history and possibility.

🧷 Rethinking organic waste through a lamp concept made with apple waste

THE PROBLEM
✖️Our tendency to quickly produce and dispose of material items—especially in modern lifestyles where people are constantly relocating—creates a demand for mobility-focused designs that minimize environmental harm.

THE SOLUTION
This lamp transforms organic waste into a functional piece. By understanding the constraints of the new material, Blossom explores a form that learned from nature, it brings a natural warm glow, and balances sustainability with craftsmanship. When its purpose is fulfilled, it can return to the Earth without harm.

HOW IT’S MADE
Lamp Shade: Orange peel, apple peel, and pectin were blended with warm water, then layered onto a baking sheet and dehydrated for 160 minutes. Through trial and error, it was determined that a 10 cm width was the ideal size.
Lamp Cap: Brewers spent grain locally sourced was ground, toasted, and then compression-molded with cornstarch bioplastic to form the lamp cap. 
The last photo shows the lamp after one year—still holding up, though few small areas have begun to break down.

🧷 Recycling what’s left behind in the glass industry

THE PROBLEM
✖️Although glass is highly recyclable, the industry still produces over 100,000 tonnes of waste particles each year—too fine to be reused through traditional methods.

THE SOLUTION
Collected from glass recycling facilities, the fine glass dust is sieved to remove impurities and sorted by particle size. It’s then shaped into molds and fired at a relatively low temperature (~800°C), forming a 100% recycled and recyclable glass material—without any added binders.

The resulting material can be used to produce functional and aesthetic pieces such as furniture, coatings, or objects.

🧷A biobased alternative to plastic document sleeves—made from shrimp shells.

THE PROBLEM
✖️Plastic is still used excessively in daily life, with limited biodegradable alternatives for common office and school supplies.

THE SOLUTION
This project introduces a protective cover made from chitosan—a biopolymer derived from shrimp shell waste and the second most abundant natural polymer after cellulose. Inspired by its natural protective function, the designer explores its potential for everyday applications like document sleeves.

HOW IT’S MADE
A liquid blend of chitosan, methylcellulose, vinegar, glycerin, and distilled water is poured into molds and dried for a week. The resulting film is then laser-cut, folded, and sewn into precise, transparent document covers.

✖️The construction industry heavily depends on concrete, a material responsible for 8% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Traditional concrete production consumes significant energy and non-renewable resources.

THE SOLUTIONďż˝
Datecrete replaces parts of the traditional cement mix with agricultural waste — specifically, discarded date seeds — creating a lighter, more eco-friendly alternative to conventional concrete. The project reimagines agricultural byproducts as high-value materials for construction.

HOW IT'S MADEďż˝
The process involves grinding date seeds and mixing them into the concrete blend, reducing the amount of cement needed while maintaining strength and performance. By using locally sourced organic waste, Datecrete minimizes transportation emissions and promotes a circular, regionally based material system.
