The Milner York proved to be a strong base for a family weekend in the city, combining railway heritage, grand Victorian interiors and a location that puts the station, city walls and historic centre within easy reach.

Our stay included Chocolate Afternoon Tea in The Garden Room, breakfast at Peachey’s, drinks and a Yorkshire Platter at The Swollen Gambler, alongside time exploring York Minster, The Shambles, the River Ouse and the city’s ghost stories after dark.

What worked particularly well was the balance between the hotel experience and the city itself. The Milner felt closely connected to the wider York stay rather than simply somewhere to return to at the end of the day.

FLANNELS has added HiiGRIND to its Metrocentre store, extending its partnership with HiiCLUB. The new hospitality space serves speciality coffee and an all-day nutritional menu, joining existing HiiGRIND locations in FLANNELS stores at Meadowhall, Leeds, Leicester Fosse Park and Liverpool.

Moods has opened inside Leeds’ historic First White Cloth Hall, bringing a new all-day café, bar and events venue to the Grade II* listed building on Kirkgate.

Created by Will and Hayley Moody, the founders behind Buzz Club Tattoo and self., Moods forms the public-facing ground floor of a wider family-led project that brings all three businesses together under one roof.

The venue combines speciality coffee, in-house patisserie, all-day dining, cocktails, wine and beer, with a fuller restaurant and private dining offer due to follow in autumn 2026. Its supplier list has a strong Yorkshire and northern focus, including meat from Swaledale Butchers, beer from Kirkstall Brewery and a rotating coffee programme featuring Leeds-based RAW Coffee, alongside a wider selection of regional and specialist producers.

Plans have been submitted to restore and expand Hartsfield Manor in Surrey into a 69-key hotel and spa retreat. PLP Architecture’s proposal combines the historic manor with a hillside extension, woodland lodges, treehouses, wellness facilities and a dedicated events building.

Freight Island Newcastle has opened at Eldon Square, revealing the completed 60,000 sq ft rooftop food, drink and entertainment destination for the first time.

Freight Island Newcastle occupies the transformed top floor and rooftop of the former Debenhams unit at Eldon Square, creating what the centre describes as the largest single-site food, drink and entertainment venue in a UK city centre.

The opening marks a major step in Eldon Square’s leisure transformation, as the Newcastle retail and leisure destination continues to diversify its city-centre offer beyond traditional retail.

Designed as an all-day venue, Freight Island Newcastle moves from daytime dining and after-work drinks into late-night entertainment, music programming, live performances and large-scale events.

Its central space, The Plant Room, sits beneath what is described as the UK’s largest retractable roof in a hospitality venue, supporting year-round use.
