Here’s what happens when women pick up the phone for each other.

My friend and former colleague reached out for a career conversation. I took the call - and we both walked away with something.

She’s building an amazing personal brand around salary transparency and chasing big financial goals. The content is brilliant, go take a look 👀 she’s amazing.

More on what she shared with me in the reel.

My main take away here - If there’s someone in your network you’ve been meaning to call - make the call!

And if someone reaches out, always take it.

Something good is always waiting on the other side.

My Instagram targets me with eerie precision.

“Are you an overwhelmed corporate woman with a big job and kids?” They promise the answer is quitting your nine to five and starting an online business to take back control of your life.

Something about this narrative doesn’t sit right with me. I wrote about why - and the opportunity on the other side of women staying in their careers.

The best career & life advice I ever received came from a coffee with a woman three levels above me at my company.

It changed the trajectory of my career.

Not everyone has access to the kind of networks that open doors, share lived experience, and show you what’s possible.

That’s one of the many reasons I’m building What Works.

Some of the best advice that helps women grow their careers is still being shared in private.

This is one piece of advice that changed how I think about growing and progressing my own career - and I’ve shared it with more women in private conversations than I can count.

So I’m bringing it into the open.

Have a plan for what you want. Know your strengths and your gaps. And then, tell the right people.

Because how can anyone support your ambitions if they don’t know what they are?

I shared WhatWorks over on LinkedIn this morning and the response from amazing women wanting to be involved and share their stories got me so excited!

If you’d like to be part of it, I’d love to hear from you.
And if there are women you think have a great story to share, tag them below.

Would love to hear from you!

I asked women in our community what’s making careers feel hard right now and what they need the most. Swipe through to see what they said.

The ambition is there. The support and systems often are not.

Swipe through - and tell me in the comments what’s missing from this list. 👇

At WhatWorks we’re building a community to bring you real conversations, lived experience and tools to help us all grow and move forward.

We’re just getting started, follow along

Hot take: working from home isn’t killing women’s careers - it may be one of the biggest opportunities we’ve had.

In the reel I share why I disagree with Emma Grede’s comments, where I do partly agree with her, and what I think we can do differently to keep growing.

My view? We have to do both.

Leverage the flexibility of working from home and make the trade-offs to be in the room, build relationships with colleagues and leaders who are influencing decisions over your career and pay.

Because we need both.

And honestly, I think broad statements like working from home is ‘killing women’s careers’ are not helpful. They don’t help women, they need to be dismantled and left in the past.

Which is exactly why I wanted to start this discussion.

Curious where you are at?

Has hybrid working helped you grow your career, or has it held you back in any way?
