😰 The Pressure: Bonnie wasn’t addicted to a screen. She was scared of being left out. So are today’s kids. So are we!

🎨 Real life play: playing offline takes work. You invent the
world you play in. That’s exactly why it matters!

📱 The tablet isn’t evil: there’s lots of good init. It becomes a problem when it’s NEEDED instead of WANTED.

👀 And for us: Kids copy what we do. Not what we say.

🐻 The Pressure: Bonnie wasn’t addicted to a screen. She was scared of being left out. So are today’s kids. So are we!

🛣️ We teach our kids to cross the road before we let them do it alone.

🛜 So why do we hand them the entire internet with no guidance?

I’m Reema. I work in cybersecurity. And after becoming a mum I realised just how much kids are exposed online with almost no guidance.

So I wrote some children’s picture books that turn online safety into something families can actually talk about - off screens through stories.

It’s not about banning technology. It’s about raising kids that can handle it! 💛

🏃 3 hours sleep but we still show up when it’s important enough. 🙌🏼

🗣️Yesterday I spoke on a panel at the Future Identity Customer conference on Age Verificafion and child safety online - and it was so worth it.

📲My take: age verification alone isn’t a safety solution. It’s a child exclusion mechcanism. Real safety comes from education, open conversations, and us adults sorting out our own relationship with tech first.

🤝 Sharing the stage with 2 brilliant experts in the field was the icing on the cake!

Last night I attended a community consultation on whether social media should be banned for under 16s. It was interesting. 👀

Few thoughts that stuck with me:

- 📈the evidence is building - Meta just lost a $375m lawsuit in the UD. A public health emergency around screens and social media has been declared. This is data.
- 🚭a ban isn’t the only answer - the real question is product regulation. We regulate cars, food, to***co. Why not social media? Platforms should have to prove they’re safe before having access to children. Not fix it when the harm is already done.
- 🧱cultural change matters as much as legislation: Schools normalising brick phones. Parents collectively choosing to delay smartphones. These shifts are happening and they work.
- 🧑‍🧑‍🧒we’re all part of the problem. My 1 year old says - ‘mummy take your phone’ when I leave the room. We adults need to change too. 🍼

3 years ago today, during my first maternity leave, I published my first children’s picture book 📚

Since then:
• Two kids later 👶👶
• Two books into the journey 📖
• And now writing a graphic novel aimed at slightly older children ✏️📕

What started as a small idea has grown into something I never expected.

Happy International Women’s Day to every woman building something — a career, a project, a business or a family 💜
