Ever felt like you belong to more than one world? 🤍

That feeling is the whole reason Shikra exists. A brand for anyone whose story runs across borders, mine goes India → South Africa → London.

On 6th September, I'm bringing it to life in a room in London: the launch of the Meeka Collection, in person.

And I'm giving 10 spots to people who aren't already in my world.

The day: the new collection up close · a quick-fire colour analysis with Styled by Pooja for the first 30 who arrive· a live illustrator · Indian canapés + chai by Maji Chai · and yes, board games. Less a launch, more a gathering.

In a world full of asking AI, we asked an artist.

Kamiya Chirodian | illustrator made this, and honestly I'm obsessed. How insanely talented is she??😍

Two women, one pot of tea, a London skyline sitting inside an Indian arch like it always belonged there. One of them reading, settled. One in her jeans with the whole city behind her. That's the feeling I've spent this whole time trying to put into words, and she just drew it.

It's going inside every single box in the new collection. So when your order arrives, this comes with art to put up on your wall. A little piece of the story to hold onto before you even open anything.

And I haven't shown you the pieces yet. This is the first glimpse of it😉

A year ago, if you'd told me Shikra London would be walking a runway at New York Fashion Week, I would have laughed. Politely. And then quietly told you that you had the wrong brand.

But here we are.

Shikra London has been invited by the incredible Pankti Doshi to walk The Silk Road Runway in New York on 12 September.

I keep coming back to what that sentence actually means. This is a brand I built from my family's story, from my grandparents, from a journey that carried us from India to South Africa.

A story of people who left everything they knew and rebuilt, again and again, so that someone down the line might get to stand somewhere they never imagined. I don't think any of them could have pictured this. A saree, reimagined, walking down a runway in New York.

There's a heaviness in it too. I'm still carrying the grief of losing my uncle, and he'll be with me on this, top of mind every single step down that runway. Some moments you wish you could hand directly to the people who are no longer here to see them. This is one of them.

We're all guilty of saving something for later. The good hand soap for guests who rarely come. The China boxed since the wedding. The linen still in its packaging. The candle too pretty to burn.

But later keeps not arriving. And most of a life is made of ordinary days.
