The company was set up in 2016 by two friends, Suzy Magni on the left in spots and Louise Marshall on the right in stripes. We came together through a shared passion for design and the desire to build a brand that creates beautifully considered products that stand the test of time and ones we hope will add value to peoples’ lives. We chose the name Spots and Stripes not only because they are the b
asic building blocks of design, but also because they never go out of fashion and feel like a reliable friend when used in design. Who doesn’t like a spot or a stripe? Our first collection ‘Written Words Matter’ was born out of the realisation that letter writing contributes significantly towards brain development, mindfulness, focus and fostering meaningful personal relationships, this invaluable skill is slowly getting lost as social media and instant messaging grows. We decided to shine a light on the importance of written words and were inspired by the emoji craze to bring expression and playfulness to our cards so that the two worlds can cross over and entice people of all ages to want to send a thoughtful message the ‘old fashioned’ way, on a beautifully printed card that is both unique and fun! We are proud of the craftsmanship in our work, that’s why everything we create is hand drawn. All our designs follow our brand promise to be ‘Perfectly Imperfect’, we like things to be a bit wibbly-wobbly, to allow room for happy accidents and to celebrate the beauty in natural lines and imperfections. We want all our products to have ‘old school’ values and charm but also reflect a modern, yet playful style.
