We just adore piano shawls! They were really popular in the 1920s and 30s, both to wear, and as home decor, and they're as lovely and as versatile now as they were then. We have several here, in pistachio green, milkshake pink, peach, cream, and a very striking black, each with gorgeous polychrome embroidery and a dramatic fringe. Glam up any outfit: or I can imagine these as a set of gifts for bridesmaids!

We're putting together some gorgeous winter stock for the fair at Hampstead town hall on Sunday! Cozy coats and knit wear, tweed skirts, 60s ski pants, winter stockings, and some lovely wool dresses, plus much more. The stunning shoes we posted yesterday came along with two pairs of matching , in shades of green! The light green ones are labelled "Brettle's Gleam, Made in England, artificial silk and cotton", and the darker pair say "cotton art silk and silk, Made in USA ". At silk, or artificial silk, is now known as rayon or viscose, and was developed in 1890, providing a cheaper alternative to real silk.

I do not say this lightly, but I honestly think these may be the most beautiful shoes I have ever seen. They are late ...

I do not say this lightly, but I honestly think these may be the most beautiful shoes I have ever seen. They are late or early and made of green leather, heavily veined with gold. They fasten with a thin strap, and should have a small button (no longer attached; we have one of them!), and they have a Louis heel. The white leather insole is marked "hand made throughout", and the makers stamp on the bottom of the heel is still clear, as they've hardly been worn. Just exquisite! We think they're around a modern UK size 4.5.
