The perfect white shirt must be one of the most important pieces of clothing in any man’s and even many women’s wardrobe and one of the most versatile. Even with potentially fewer days in the office and more casual work dressing somehow the white shirt is still by far our most popular shirt and most bridegroom’s choice of wedding shirt. I am always excited when a new white emerges from one of our Swiss or Italian mills as many customers like to try a few weights or weaves in order to find their perfect white, depending on their lifestyle, climate or just personal preferences.

So the perfect white linen shirt must begin with the most beautiful linen of course, in my opinion the Italian is the finest. And then the cut and make whether bespoke or ready to wear, good lining and collar structure as mentioned, small, neat single stitched seams and finished with real iridescent mother of pearl buttons sewn on with lots of thread so you never have to suffer the indignity of a missing button. And to finish your white linen Summer dressing, boxer shorts would be the icing on the wedding cake

Boiling London weather not only calls for the coolest cottons and linens but beautifully effective air conditioning which we have happily inherited at our Mayfair place and just installed a brand new system in Jermyn Street this morning, to replace a system I inherited 27 years ago when we moved in!

I explained what inspired on Friday to our gathered new supporters of the charity, including who all bought tickets for the evening, an event entirely funded, hosted and organised by the kindest and best of friends, , , and captured here by childhood friend . Paintings by RA , .hartdyke and were generously donated and sold at the wonderful evening , thank you to everyone.

The heaviest double weave linen we have ever used for dressing gowns and over shirt this SS26 , here in our hand cut dressing gown with contrasting lining and hand rolled and sewn piping. Emmett also wears the lighter 190 gram linen pyjamas made by Ella , Anna W and Anna S in our cathedral room at Bearland Hiuse, with views of the cathedral and the bells ringing to inspire and compliment their skilled work.

Shirt making and tailoring are very different crafts so when we prepared for this Summer’s photo shoot celebrating linen, we needed to design trousers which kept with our soft construction and ways of sewing.

Our young designers Samantha and Georgia have designed the relaxed pyjama style trouser, to be worn casually with a t-shirt or t-shirt and linen shirt over shirt, in the heavier weight 260 gram Jade Twill and Ink Denim, and slightly lighter 190 gram To***co and Ivory Herringbone. They are an easy fit so if you are in between sizes do order the smaller.

The trousers coordinate with the t-shirt and linen shirt colours, with the different shades of blues, ivory, brown and of course white. Our t-shirts are extremely soft stretch Swiss cotton, light to wear but a dense opaque weave. Our model Emmett is wearing a size medium, but they can be ordered in sizes small, medium, large or XL. If we have your bespoke measurements we can create your own pattern which our customers are loving.

Our production team in Gloucester have greatly enjoyed creating the new patterns, our machinists applying their careful stitching to the sewing and made using the loveliest of Italian and Swiss linens and cottons these casual looks still radiate luxury.
