John Simons x Original Madras Trading Company: Tyner Madras Shirt and Ivy The Elephant
Inspired by the relaxed sophistication of 1960s jazz, The Tyner shirt is based on an original 60s boom years Ivy shirt, regular fit through the body with a slightly smaller sports collar. It represents the meeting point of authentic cloth and timeless menswear. Created in collaboration with The Original Madras Trading Company, whose reputation was built on bringing genuine handwoven Madras cloth to Western menswear, it is crafted from fabric woven start to finish by a single master weaver on a traditional handloom. Taking approximately 2–3 hours to produce just one metre, this meticulous process creates the rich colour, distinctive texture, and subtle irregularities that are the hallmark of true handweaving.
The cloth itself is woven in Southern India using traditional techniques that have changed little over generations. Unlike machine-made fabrics, each length possesses its own character and depth, with no two shirts exactly alike. Designed with all the details of a classic Ivy button-down, the Tyner is intended to be worn and enjoyed, softening and becoming increasingly personal with age. A shirt for summer, and for years to come.
As a companion piece to our collaboration with OMTC, the Ivy the Elephant figure celebrates the enduring appeal of genuine handloomed Madras cloth and the craftsmanship behind it. Produced in a limited edition of just 50 pieces, each figure is individually handmade, ensuring that no two are exactly alike.
