One last gratitude day and it's last but not least on this twelfth night. Our final thanks of the year go to our suppliers and manufacturers. Without you, Socko would still just be a Homeland-style wall of Post Its and I wouldn't have had the joy of getting to the heart of hosiery and to what makes a flipping good sock. I wouldn't have been able to dust off my BA graphics skills and I wouldn't have had the opportunity to take my handmade passion and learn about what it takes to make socks at scale. Thank you for taking a chance on my idea to make socks from waste right here in the UK ⛓️⚙️🇬🇧

From Fan Girl to Gallery Darner. This is the year I was able to connect with the sock waste from our sock factory use as the base materials for her new exhibition 'Socks: The Art of Care & Repair' 🧦🖼️

I first interviewed Celia back in 2009; well we interviewed each other as she was knitting stories . I have since followed her career, including seeing Bill's Sweater at v&a, Hope's Sweater , attended her workshop and book launch and have shared her work during Socko darning workshops and by selling her book On Mending through our shop. Low key stalking some may say... 🕵️‍♀️🙈

Celia invited me to be one of the Gallery Darners on hand to help visitors get to grips with a woven darn during her exhibition. So for my penultimate day of gratitude, I am grateful to her for all of the inspiration she has provided through her work and for including me in the opportunity to teach more people the lost art of darning [socks]! 🪡💗

All hail Rag School Rachael and the tremendous, inventive ways she has worked with sock industry waste 🧦🎨 (and many other forms of rag besides)!

I was honoured to be included, alongside in ' Rag Manifesto, her latest book, published by in 2024. A great encourager and shining spirit, Rachael is a joy and an inspiration to know 💖

One of the highlights of this past year has been the events we've run with & . They've now become a regular in the diary whenever Kate is over from NYC and each evening has been unique and momentous. I feel truly inspired by Kate and Barley and the coming together of like-mended [sic] folk in our coven-not-a-coven. There's a reason why Lovely Sue is thusly named. Anyone who's met her can attest to it. Sue is not only the founder of fantastic solid haircare brand and a brilliant business woman, she is also a huge advocate for the environment and someone who I met through us both launching sustainability-led businesses at a similar point in time 💚
Sue is selfless, generous, always has a smile and sound advice. It is a joy to have her as someone I get to meet up with once a month to "get ish done" and/or tuck into a delicious lunch with. Sue is interested & interesting & I'm honoured to be her friend. She also comes to the rescue with skills, contacts and trestle tables. is a truly unique space of creative minds and kind hearts. Today I feel grateful that Socko calls it home and for the luxury of having a making space and caring community. From photographers to models to designers to dog sitters to postal workers, as well as tea/coffee makers & masterchefs. We're lucky to have this special environment right on our doorstep. Thanks today goes to all the journalists that have thought me, my products or my business newsworthy enough to feature in the press. It really makes such a difference to a small business (and the old imposter syndrome) to see your name in print. And on a more techie level, receiving a backlink from a notable publication helps more people find you when searching online 🤓

Socko darning workshops have been running since January 2019, mostly around London but as far afield as Bristol, Lewes and Northumberland. Our 4th day of gratitude goes to the workshop hosts and hundreds of attendees we've had in that time. It's a pleasure to take you from threading a needle all the way through to confidence in a new, rewarding life skill.
