Three years ago Westminster City Council whacked up our business rates 133%. When unsuccessfully contested, their response was that we would reap the benefits of Crossrail. When asked how we would benefit, there was no reply. What did occur, was the need to take on alternate retail and office spaces away from the mass building sites that are the Crossrail stations and ancillary buildings, further fuelling a phony demand for property, which rocketed up the rents imposed by the large property owners and subsequent business rates that the councils further lined their deep pockets. The Crossrail Project is an antiquated solution and not near radical enough. The Georgians and Victorians did not cater for the motorcar when urban planning, should we not be looking further ahead, than this project to move folk around on train tracks, which was invented and rolled out two hundred years ago?
