Mikel Arteta says Arsenal's players have told him they "want more" this season as they look to deny Manchester City a fifth consecutive Premier League title.

The Gunners have finished second to City in the past two league campaigns, and were just two points behind Pep Guardiola's side last season.

On the evening after the final match of last season against Everton, Arteta and Arsenal held a gathering in central London that was attended by owner and co-chairman Josh Kroenke, players with their families and club staff.

"All the players were saying to me, 'we’re going to be better, we’re going to do it, we want more,'" said Arteta.

At all levels, Spain are dominating football right now.

The men's national team beat England to be crowned European champions this summer while the women's team won the World Cup last year.

They also hold the two biggest titles in European club football, with Real Madrid and Barcelona winning last season's men's and women's Champions League respectively.

They could soon add an Olympic gold medal to their list of achievements too, with Spain into the men's final in Paris on Friday. The women's team just missed out, being beaten by Brazil in the semi-finals.

It is a hugely impressive list of achievements - and perhaps worrying for rival countries given the success has come despite a chaotic backdrop as a result of the sexism scandal that overshadowed the women's World Cup win.

Ireland coach Heinrich Malan says his players must go into their T20 World Cup opener against India on 5 June in New York believing that they can beat the star-studded opposition.

Malan, who has just signed a contract extension which will keep him in the Ireland job until the summer of 2027, says he's "excited about playing India" and wants his players to have the same mentality.

"When you look at T20 cricket you need maybe one or two players to have a special time out and you can take down any team in the world down," said the South African native.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he will leave Bayern Munich this summer despite holding talks about a potential U-turn to stay.

It was announced in February the German, 50, would depart with a year left on his contract after a difficult campaign, in which Bayern were beaten to the Bundesliga title by Bayer Leverkusen.

A petition from fans called for Tuchel to stay but the former Chelsea manager says talks "did not reach an agreement".

"Our agreement from February still stands," said Tuchel, who was appointed in March 2023.

Enes Unal scored on his first Premier League start for Bournemouth as the Cherries beat below-par Brighton to reach their highest top-flight points total.

Marcos Senesi's 13th-minute header gave Andoni Iraola's side the lead, nodding in from three yards after the visitors failed to clear a corner.

Turkey striker Unal dragged wide in the first half, but scored his second goal since joining on loan from Getafe in January when he cleverly headed Dango Ouattara's cross into the far corner after the break.

The impressive Justin Kluivert sealed the win when he drove at the Brighton defence late on and drilled a left-footed strike past Bart Verbruggen for his third goal in three home games.

Brighton were lacklustre throughout and failed to create many meaningful chances - coming closest when Simon Adingra's effort was tipped over the bar by Mark Travers.

There was concern late on for Bournemouth though, with winger Antoine Semenyo carried off on a stretcher with a suspected knee injury.

The victory moves the Cherries to 48 points - two more than their previous best top-flight haul in 2016-17.

Iraola told BBC Match of the Day: "We are really, really happy. The players deserve these points. They have performed really well.

"Even when we weren't getting points at the start of the season they were pushing and playing well. Now we want more points and to continue."

He also confirmed Unal's loan will become a permanent deal, saying: "We are very happy, especially with his attitude and how he is integrating on and off the pitch. It is a very good signing for us."

Brighton remain 12th and have now won just six of their past 28 league games.

Chelsea's hopes of winning the Champions League in manager Emma Hayes' final season remain alive, but Barcelona head into Saturday's semi-final first leg as favourites.

While the Blues are yet to lift the famous trophy Hayes has steered the club from a position of no significant trophies to become the dominant force in England, boasting six Women's Super League titles, five FA Cups and two League Cups.

Hayes and her Barcelona counterpart Jonatan Giraldez, both departing at the end of the season, face the opportunity to move one step closer to European glory.

The fixture is a repeat of last season's semi-final, which Barca won 2-1 on aggregate before going on to lift the trophy by beating Wolfsburg in the final.

Phil Foden can hardly be called a member of Manchester City's undercard given his consistent brilliance, but his precious value was underlined again with a show of dazzling brilliance against Aston Villa.

City manager Pep Guardiola raised eyebrows before kick-off by keeping his main double act Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland on the bench, but it was an accurate reflection of this Foden masterclass that they were not missed for a moment in a superb 4-1 win.

No De Bruyne? No Haaland? No problem. Not when you have got Phil Foden in this form.

If De Bruyne and Haaland are City's headline performers, than Foden has a strong case to join them at the top of the bill in Guardiola's galaxy of stars.

This was an outstanding Manchester City performance, the old quality back on show, but Foden was its beating heart, the peerless Rodri also playing his part.

Ex-England goalkeeper David James came out of retirement at the age of 53 to score the winning goal for a title-chasing Sunday League side.

James, who made 572 Premier League appearances, played a one-off game for AFC Hutwood and scored a 25-yard free-kick to give them a 2-1 victory.

He pulled on his shorts as a gesture of goodwill after the Sunday league side filled a donation box with boots.

"I kept asking the manager to take me off," James told BBC Radio Solent.

"Fortunately he didn't as we got a free-kick which I smashed goal bound. It hit the post, then hit the goalkeeper and went in."

The former Liverpool, Manchester City and Portsmouth stopper played the first half in goal and then in the outfield after the break in the City of Southampton Sunday FL Division One game against Madeinheath United.

He never scored in his professional career which spanned more than 25 years.

James is an ambassador for energy company Utilita's Football Rebooted initiative and was only too happy to help when Hutwood asked on social media if he was interested in getting some game time.

The campaign aims to provide football boots for those who cannot afford them.

"The idea of the campaign is to keep boots in the community," James added.

"We want people to have them that want to take part in football but maybe can't afford them. The aim is for anyone to be able to play, not matter who you are."

Jamie Vardy's first-half header gave Championship leaders Leicester City a crucial win against Sunderland to keep their title bid on track.

The Foxes went into the game on the back of three consecutive league defeats, which cut their lead at the top of the table from 12 points to just three.

But Vardy's 10th goal of the season, a headed finish after a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall free kick from the left, saw them home in an uninspiring encounter at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats lost their fifth game in a row, falling from the play-off spots to 10th place in that time, 10 points outside the top six.
