Victorian seersucker wool, silk and lace cape - one of many beautiful things I’m bringing to Frock Me! Chelsea at Chelsea Old Town Hall on Sunday 20th September. Made in finely corded seersucker wool with a silk ribbon tie and deep floral lace flounces.

I’m so looking forward to the first Frock Me! event of the new season. September is always one of the busiest fairs, so do book ahead if you’re planning to come.

Available - An Edwardian ivory silk and lace dress, likely for bridal-wear, circa 1905-1908, made from lightweight silk over a cotton lining. It features a high transparent lace yoke, softly draped bloused bodice, and a long central panel of lace insertion and fine pin-tucking, reflecting the influence of lingerie construction on Edwardian day dress.

By the middle of the first decade of the 20th century, dressmakers were using lace, insertion and bands of pin-tucking not only in underclothing and tea gowns, but increasingly in more formal day and afternoon dress. Here these techniques are combined with silk and a fully lined construction, giving the dress considerably more structure than a typical lingerie dress.

Available - A rare, date stamped 1901 early Edwardian summer corset, in openwork cotton mesh with closely spaced boning, front busk fastening and rear lacing. Stamped “Patented February 19th 1901”, giving a rare exact point of reference for the design. Ventilated corsets like this were made as lighter alternatives to standard corsetry, intended for warm weather while still maintaining the fashionable straight-front silhouette of the period. Finished with pale pink trim and lace at the upper edge.

Waist 20.5” fully closed. Period corsets were sized smaller than the wearer’s natural waist and intended to be worn with a lacing gap; this would best suit approximately a 23–25” natural waist.

Available now in my web-shop - A 19th-century cut-steel choker converted from a belt fitting. The original pierced steelwork is densely faceted with an almost cuirass-like severity. Cut steel was especially fashionable in the late 18th and 19th centuries, prized for the way its polished facets imitated the sparkle of diamonds in candlelight.

This is fully adjustable. I ship worldwide.

Available - A late 1920s / early 1930s peach brocade girdle, woven with gold floral motifs and with four elastic suspender straps with metal stocking clips. Cut high at the waist and in long curves over the hips, it reflects the shift in interwar corsetry towards a straighter, more modern line.

In apparently unworn condition, with only some age-related stiffness to the original metal fixtures. Retains a period tag suggesting Belgian manufacture.

Available - An intricate Edwardian combing jacket, circa 1905-1910, made from fine cotton lawn with lace insertion and ribbon-slot lace threaded with lilac silk ribbon at the bust and cuffs.

By the Edwardian period, combing jackets - worn at the dressing table in the morning while the hair was brushed - had become increasingly elaborate, sitting somewhere between practical dressing wear and decorative lingerie. This is a particularly fine example. Best fit UK 6.

Available - A spectacular, late Victorian black beaded shoulder cape or mantle, circa 1890-1900. Armour-like, it is cut with a high standing collar and long pointed fronts densely worked in black glass beadwork. The shoulders are built-up like epaulettes, finished with beaded silk bows and extraordinary layers of beaded fringe that fall over the upper arms and soften the silhouette.

Bearing its original label linking it to the late-Victorian London West End mantle trade.

In excellent antique condition, with the beadwork and fringe presenting exceptionally well with only minor losses.

Available - An Edwardian cotton combination, circa 1900-1910, in fine white cotton with a neckline worked in alternating bands of intricate lace and broderie anglaise, threaded with peach silk ribbon. The bodice falls into full knee-length bloomers, finished with further lace insertion and ribbon ties at the legs - a one-piece step-in undergarment.
