Four-time Olympic champion Simone Biles said "I knew I would be back" after she qualified for the Paris Games.

American Biles, 27, secured her spot at the US Olympic trials on Sunday in Minneapolis with a two-day all-round score of 117.225.

Paris will be Biles' third Olympics after competing in the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo events.

She had a disappointing Games in Tokyo, winning a silver and a bronze, as she suffered with the 'twisties', which gymnasts describe as a kind of mental block, and withdrew from some events to prioritise her mental health and safety.

High jumper Jonathan Broom-Edwards sees the Paris crowd as "a beast to be harnessed" when he defends his Paralympic title in France later this year.

Broom-Edwards was one of 10 British track and field athletes named on the ParalympicsGB team in the first phase of selection on Friday, with the remainder of the athletics squad to be announced next month.

The 36-year-old from Essex, who will be competing at his third Games, will be joined by fellow Paralympic and world champions in track star Hannah Cockroft, shot putter Aled Sion Davies and javelin specialist Dan Pembroke.

Rory McIlroy is the joint leader of the US Open alongside Patrick Cantlay after an intriguing first day at Pinehurst, North Carolina.

American Cantlay was superb in the early wave shooting a five-under 65 to lead by one from Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg.

Going out late, McIlroy plotted his way round a difficult golf course, looking unruffled as he matched Cantlay's score with a bogey-free round.

"It was a really controlled round of golf," said McIlroy, who had two birdies in his final three holes.

Manchester United midfielder Omari Forson will join Serie A side Monza when his contract at Old Trafford expires later this month.

It is understood Forson has agreed a contract to 2028, with the deal set to be officially confirmed later on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old made seven first-team appearances in the 2023-24 season, featuring in matches against Manchester City and Arsenal.

France forward Kylian Mbappe says it is a "dream come true" as his long-awaited move to Real Madrid was confirmed, external on Monday evening.

Mbappe, 25, will move to the Bernabeu Stadium on a five-year deal when his Paris St-Germain contract expires on 30 June.

He will earn 15m euros (£12.8m) a season, plus a 150m euro (£128m) signing-on bonus to be paid over five years, and he will keep a percentage of his image rights.

"Nobody can understand how excited I am right now!" Mbappe posted on Instagram.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is no longer in contention to become Chelsea’s next manager.

The 38-year-old was on an early shortlist of candidates to replace Mauricio Pochettino after he left the club by mutual consent last week.

The leading remaining candidates are former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, Leicester's Enzo Maresca and Brentford's Thomas Frank.

The 68th Eurovision Song Contest final is taking place on Saturday in Malmo in Sweden.

UK entrant Olly Alexander had an automatic place in the final and will perform his song Dizzy.

The grand final will be at the Malmo Arena on Saturday 11 May.

That Taylor Swift would write a break-up album is no surprise.

Over her last 10 records, the star has taken a scalpel to her personal life, filleting the details of flings and trysts and heartbreaks to create some of pop's most memorable lyrics.

For the last half-decade, she's been in romantic mode. Songs like Delicate, Lover, Invisible String and Lavender Haze were all inspired by her boyfriend of six years, the British actor Joe Alwyn.

They were so close that Swift moved to London, and shared writing credits with Alwyn (under the pseudonym William Bowery) on her Grammy Award-winning albums Folklore and Midnights.

Then, in April 2023, a month after Swift kicked off her record-breaking Eras tour, it was announced that they had split.

West End musical Opening Night, which stars Sheridan Smith, is to close two months early, with producers blaming "a challenging financial landscape".

Smith plays a star with mental health problems who unravels on stage.

Director Ivo Van Hove said it was "always sad" when a show is cut short.

It received mixed reviews, with The New York Times calling it a "sludgy travesty", while The Express praised Smith but said the show is a "catastrophic musical misfire".

Time Out called Smith "superb" and the Guardian hailed the show as "glittering and extravagantly original".

he Brit Awards are known for outlandish outfits and splashes of colour - and while many stars chose to showcase bright outfits, a sizable number opted for a more sombre black.

Oh, and there was also a giraffe.

Singer-songwriter Raye reflected on her record-breaking nominations, saying: "I've got tears in my eyes already, I've got waterproof eyeliner on."

She said all she had ever wanted was to be "an albums artist".

The UK's largest indoor arena will open its doors for the first time with a headline act performed by Peter Kay.

The Bolton comedian will perform at the opening night of the new 23,500-seater Co-op Live venue in Manchester on 23 April.

Liam Gallagher, Take That, Pearl Jam and Olivia Rodrigo are also set to separately perform at the £350m arena.

Co-op general manager Gary Roden said Kay was the "perfect" opening act who "embodies what this city is about".

The new venue, set to open opposite Manchester City's Etihad stadium, featured a "unique bowl design" that would bring fans "closer to the artist than at other arenas of equivalent size", a spokesman for the Co-op said.

A "phenomenal" bass player who worked with major artists, including Jamiroquai on his hit Dynamite album, has died in a five-car crash.

Hertfordshire police said Derrick McIntyre, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene in Bushey on 2 February.

The Watford resident had also played on albums with artists such as Emeli Sandé, Will Young and Beverly Knight.

In a tribute posted online his family described the grandfather as a "phenomenal bass player".

It added that his loss will "be felt in and around the music world".
