It has been a pleasure working on this beautiful Olympia Maryam Horsehide Type 2.

This is one of the most extraordinary leathers I’ve come across. I think it must have been a one-off batch, and the moment I laid eyes on it I knew I wanted to save it for something special. It’s a very dense, heavyweight, waxy hide and the natural grain is absolutely out of this world. It’ll definitely take some elbow grease breaking in but I imagine it’ll look even better 10 years from now.

Finished this beautiful Olympia jacket yesterday evening, commissioned by a customer-turned-friend and a truly wonderful human, .

A cropped 1930s-inspired half-belt in natural Mustang horsehide.

It was a pleasure to work on this jacket for Ian, from developing and refining the pattern (took lots of back and forth) to hand-stitching the final details. Very proud.

A few more shots of our finished Olympia 001 in “Bone” Badalassi.

Cut from vegetable-tanned hides from Tuscany, tanned using natural tree-bark extracts like chestnut and mimosa rather than chrome chemicals. Even in this pale, bone-coloured state, the leather has already gone through the full tanning process - it’s simply left undyed so it can darken and develop character naturally with wear.

I spend a lot of my time these days working with higher end leathers, and choosing a hide isn’t just about how it looks - it’s about how much of it I can actually use. At the end of the day it’s a skin, it belonged to an animal that lived a life, and that shows through scarring, stretch marks, branding, insect bites, thin bellies, weak shoulders. I’ll happily leave lighter scars in for character, but sometimes you come across beautiful hides and realise that after cutting around everything that isn’t workable, there’s barely anything left. Badalassi Carlo is the opposite of that. What I think of as a high-yield hide - sheet after sheet that’s clean, dense and consistent, so when we go to cut panels we can use the entire skin. That level of selection, tanning and finishing is rare, and it’s exactly why I keep coming back to it.

Lila wearing the Shinki Hikaku Olympia 001. We laughed so hard shooting these. She didn’t have jeans on, so I had to take mine off and give them to her while I stood there snapping these in the studio in nothing but my thermal long johns. I’ve left out all of the candid shots (sadly).
