Icon Textile Group

Icon Textile Group The Textile Specialists Group of the Institute of Conservation The Textile Group remains one of the largest Icon groups.

We have an active committee who meet regularly to organise an annual programme of events, training and visits. We would welcome suggestions for future activities and offers from institutions willing to host a workshop, visit etc. The main event organised by the group is the annual Spring Forum. This remains a key date in the conservation calendar, and is a great opportunity to learn, debate and ne

twork with other conservators. Members of the textile group include conservators employed at museums, private conservators, researchers and students

We are looking for a new Emerging Professional Representative to join our team!

The Emerging Professional Representative acts as a liaison between the Textile Group Committee and students, emerging professionals, the Icon Emerging Professionals Network and training programmes and institutions. The role encourages engagement with Icon by creating textile focused events specifically for students and emerging professionals, promoting Icon led workshops and conferences, and encouraging submissions of papers and/or posters to Icon and Textile Group conferences. The Emerging Professional Representative also hopes to develop connections between students across institutions, enabling them to have a presence within the Icon and wider heritage communities.

We are looking for an Events Officer to join our team!

Events Officers develop a calendar of Textile Group events. Events may be in-person, online or hybrid, from organising evening lectures on Zoom to in-person conservation workshops. Events may be organised in collaboration with other Icon groups. Events officers also liaise with the Icon office to set up and advertise events. Events should disseminate information about conservation best practice, research and understanding, providing opportunities for CPD.

We are looking for two web and news editors to join our committee!

Web and News Editors ensure that the Textile Group’s news and events are shared across Icon’s platforms, and that the group pages on the Icon website are regularly checked and up-to-date. Working closely with the Social Media Editor and the Events team, Web and News Editors agree and produce copy for events that are published via Iconnects, Icon Magazine, and for social media. Editors also work with the Icon magazine editor, Textile Group Chair and other committee members to coordinate and present content for the Icon Magazine (four deadlines per year), sharing updates from the Group, future event and event reviews/ summaries with the wider Icon community.
