Polyamory is the practice of intimate relationships with more than one partner, with the consent of all partners involved. People in polyamorous relationships often reject the construct that sexual and relational exclusivity is required for committed, long-term loving relationships. Polyamory is sometimes described as consensual, ethical, and responsible non-monogamy.
In 2022, a new ‘Tricolour’ polyamory pride flag was unveiled by , voted as the preferred new flag design by over 30,000 community members. A chevron points toward the opposite end of the flag, a symbol of growth and progress, and sits asymmetrically on the flag to reflect the non-traditional style of polyamorous relationships. The heart within reminds us that love in all forms is the core of non-monogamy.
The new flag complements the older 1995 ‘Pi’ flag, with the colours which represent the following: blue for openness and honesty, red for love and passion, and black for solidarity with those who must hide their polyamorous relationship from the outside world. The ‘pi’ symbol is in the center of the flag, as the first letter of ‘polyamory’ as written in Greek script.
After lots of requests to include some accessories in the new ‘Tricolour’ flag, I’m happy to announce that these can now be found in the Flag, Mini Flag, and Rainbow designs!
