We’re at the heart of the renowned Scottish knitwear and cashmere industry, located in Hawick on the banks of the River Teviot, deep in the Scottish Borders. We buy only the highest quality raw cashmere and transform it into a sublimel
y soft yarn, thanks to the soft water that endlessly runs beside our mill. Next, we marry together the best traditional skills with the latest technology and design, creating beautiful cashmere garments that are exquisite to touch and wear. And their inherent quality means each piece can last for decades. All our cashmere fibre comes from the finest under hair beneath the thick exterior coat of the cashmere goat living on the icy plateaus of Inner Mongolia. The rarity of the fibre, and the difficult conditions under which it is gathered, is one reason cashmere is so precious. It takes the under hair of at least three goats to create one sweater and twenty-four goats to produce enough for a cashmere coat. We only accept a small fraction of the harvested raw fibre for processing - fibres that are a minimum of 34 mm in length and a maximum thickness of 16.5 micron. Yarn that is spun from fibre that falls short of these specifications will be weaker and will result in quick pilling with wear, it may also tend to lose its shape. Therefore only the finest of fibre is brought to RUE JACOB to be made into the world’s most desirable knitwear. Follow us :
