I was delighted to launch OCTO - my new tableware collection - with FLW during Ambiente in Frankfurt. Better still, the range was well received and generated a buzz at the stand. As asked for by numerous buyers, samples are being sent out to major supermarkets and retailers for further consideration.

The design aims to achieve a soft geometry, with the shape morphing from a faceted base to a smooth continuous rim. The result is pleasing to handle and subtly eye-catching.

STUDIO FURNITURE FOR SALE

I am moving studio and no longer have a need for these three items of custom made furniture. I made them back in 2011 when I moved into my first studio at Cockpit Arts and they were designed with studio ceramics in mind. Made from Kee Klamp (scaffold) each piece is very sturdy and easy to dismantle/assemble.

In the order that you see them:

'Wedging Table' h.74cm w.130cm d.66cm
‘Drying Rack’ h.236cm w.156cm d.98cm
'Throwing Table' h.66cm w.122cm d.61cm

Wedging Table - Designed for clay preparation, slightly lower than conventional desk so you can get your body weight over the material when wedging clay.

Drying Rack - Originally used to store pots at the different stages of their drying. Comes with various planks of birch ply, which I used to put freshly thrown pots from the wheel onto. Basically, it’s a storage unit.

Throwing Table - built to a similar height as a Shimpo potters wheel for convenience of access when throwing.

They have all served me well and would make perfect companions for a potter or two. Please message me for further information. Collection only from Kennington, London.

It gives me great pleasure to share with you my new role as Creative Director of Monno Design. Monno Design is the new future of globally renowned ceramics manufacturer MONNO Ceramic, which was established in 1984 (coincidentally, the year I was born) by Rasheed and Samiul Islam’s late grandfather, Harunar Rashid Khan Monno (1932-2017). Alongside my ongoing design projects for Billy Lloyd Ceramics, I am now responsible for the creative and design strategy of our new business partnership. Together, Samiul, Rasheed and I will continue the company’s superb ability to manufacture porcelain and bone china products for brands (this is known as OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer) as well as develop our own brand of hospitality tableware under the guise of Mode London. So many exciting projects to look forward to and we will of course share our progress with you as we move forward.

KILN FOR SALE (scroll through pics). My Kilns & Furnaces (K&F) SHTL.233 toploader has served me well since I bought it brand new for my first studio at Cockpit Arts in 2011. Originally purchased and installed as a three-phase kiln, however, when I moved studio to Iliffe Yard it was not possible to install three-phase so I converted it to single phase without complication. As with all second hand kilns, there are obvious signs of wear and tear and a few bricks have cracked or chipped. The firing chamber is 648mm diameter x 686mm height and the kiln’s weight is 92kg. In addition to the kiln, I am including various items of kiln furniture (the two large kiln shelves are 23” diameter) and a Stafford ST316A kiln controller, which is excellent. Asking price for everything but delivery is £1000. For a more detailed assessment, anyone interested is of course welcome to come and see the kiln. Send me a message for more info. Made in Stoke-on-Trent.

Ambiente in Frankfurt has now concluded and what a fantastic show it was. As part of our display at MONNO Ceramic we included a small exhibit of Martin Hunt’s silver case, which (some of you may remember) I inherited last year. Within and around it is a selection of high density foam, plaster and ceramic models I have developed in a similar way to how Martin would have worked. Sadly, Martin passed away last year and it’s strange to think that he was walking the halls at Ambiente ‘18 carrying his silver case full of plaster models for new designs. His presence was still very much felt on our stand at Monno, however, with four Queensberry Hunt ranges on display. It’s an honour and a privilege to be exhibiting alongside David Queensberry (who won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Tableware International Awards). Thank you Rasheed, Samiul and the whole crew at Monno for bringing us all together.

The launch of my bone china Modular collection with MONNO Ceramic has gone very well. Customers are enjoying exploring the various combinations and solutions the range brings to the table. The Aperture Plate, as seen on the right of the image, has also caused a stir. All our hard work researching and developing the collection has come into fruition and we are delighted with the results. If you are at Ambiente, do come and see us in Hall 5.1, C98.

*Sound On* A sense of place.

I thought it might be interesting to some of you to see what Dhaka, home of MONNO Ceramic, looks like from a rooftop in the city centre. I made this during Salat al-'asr, a call to prayer in the late afternoon. Quite a view, right?

My bone china Aperture Plate (formerly known as Ring Plate) now has an additional bowl that can be inserted to the central aperture. The modelling department at MONNO Ceramic have done an excellent job in the factory ensuring a snug fit. It’s always a joy to see an idea turned into a reality.
