George Parker was a senior sailor of the British Royal Navy who served in both World War I and World War II.

George Parker, who was born in London in 1901, joined the Royal Navy in 1916 when he was just 15 years old.

He served as a boy seaman in World War I and also served his country in World War II.

He remained active in the Navy for more than 40 years and was among the most senior crusty seadog sailors in the fleet.

Medals: British Empire Medal, WWI British War Medal and WW1 Victory Medal, 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star with clasp, Africa Star with Clasp, 1939-1945 War Medal with mention in dispatches, Naval GSM and Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

He also appears to be wearing a Life Saving Medal on his right.

We are deeply saddened by the death of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway.

An Honorary General of the British Army and Honorary Colonel of the Royal Marines, King Harald was a dear friend of our Armed Forces and exemplified the deep friendship between our nations.

Flags will be half masted at all Defence sites in his honour.

Our thoughts are with the people of Norway at this sad time.

As the scale of the tragedy in Nepal becomes apparent today, all of the Gurkha family stand united in support of the people affected.

We salute the work of our brothers and sisters in the Nepal Army and emergency services as they deal with the aftermath of the catastrophic river flood.

Our Gurkha family is working together to do what it can.

British Gurkhas Nepal and the Gurkha Welfare Trust are working hard to ensure our people are safe and that we can help and support the Nepalese authorities in any way we can.

Many lives and livelihoods have been lost, and the path to recovery for Nepal, yet again, will take time and considerable effort.

Our hearts go out to those who have lost family and friends.

We are with you.

They Didn't Come Home.

Two Brave Cleveland Officers Lost on the A66.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, two Cleveland Police officers went out on shift to keep their communities safe.

They did not come home. Another two members of the 999 family lost 💙💙

PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38, were killed when their marked Armed Response Vehicle collided head on with a car travelling the wrong way on the A66 near South Bank, Middlesbrough, at around 3.39am.

The thoughts of the 999 family and their many supporters are with the families, friends and colleagues of the officers.

Spare a thought too for the colleagues who attended that scene.

Officers, paramedics and fire crews who arrived to find their own were among the dead.

That is a weight most of us will never have to carry, and they will carry it long after the headlines move on.

This crash sits inside a pattern we see again and again: emergency vehicles responding to danger only to be met with more danger on the road itself, from drivers who treat speed, red lights and the wrong carriageway as a challenge rather than a matter of life and death.

So we are asking the question a lot of you will be asking too.

When do sentences for driving that puts 999 crews and the public at genuine risk of death start reflecting the harm they actually cause?

Over the last five years, we have seen a terrifying increase in the number of incidents involving wrong-way drivers.

When is something going to be done about it!!!!
