It’s not the end, or at least I hope it’s not.

But I will be putting Tatum Diamond London on hold for a little while.

Why you may ask…
Well we’ve decided to take a bit of a sabbatical & live life to the fullest. We’ve moved aboard our yacht & we are exploring the 7 seas (the Mediterranean for now)

Our goal is to be as self sufficient as possible, for the last few days we have been generating our own electricity & making our own (desalinated) water 😍

Hopefully I’ll be making bags again soon. I just need to get my hands on a fancy new yacht friendly sewing machine.

But until then…If you’d like to follow us on our new journey, we’re “Treading lightly, leaving only a Watermark” ⛵️😍

World Water Day!

Planet Earth, or more accurately planet Ocean, truly is spectacular.

71 % of the earths surface is water,
96% of that water is in the ocean
3% of the Earth's Water is Fresh Water
68% of that Fresh Water is trapped in Glaciers (where we really need it to stay)

Water sustains us, it cleans us, it relaxes & revives us.
If you are anything like me, water is also where I play, recover & grow

Everything we are, everything we have is thanks to water.

A dream to fight waste & overproduction!⁠

My dream, when I started TDL, was to create beautiful, seasonless bags out of materials that already exist. ⁠
⁠
I started with vegetable-tanned leather (a beautiful, durable material & a by-product of the meat industry)⁠
⁠
I feel that the addition of sailcloth into my range, not only gives me a deeper connection to the ocean but also fulfils my mission to reduce ocean plastic.⁠
⁠
I love that the materials that I use have a story & that I am able to give them a second life.⁠
⁠
My classic designs & made to order approach means that I never make more than I need when creating my pieces timeless.⁠

Dreaming of Getting Away? New product sneak peek!!⁠

We took up sailing just before all things Covid, put a hold on all things travel & fun.⁠
⁠
Since then I managed to get my hands on a beautiful preloved sail. It had served it's time & taken its family on countless adventures. Like many sails that can no longer take up-wind & pull their yacht through the seas, it was destined for landfill. ⁠
⁠
That's where I stepped in, inspired to breath a second life into this amazing material, I started working on a few designs to add to my "Waste-Less" Collection. ⁠
⁠
And here's the first one, what better way to pay homage to a sail that was designed to travel, than to give it a new life as a weekend bag that you take on your travels.⁠
⁠
They aren't up on my website yet, I've still got the small task of coming up with a suitable ocean inhabitant inspired name. ⁠
⁠
But to mark the first MADE IN THE UK DAY, I wanted to give you all a peek of what I've been working on. ⁠

I need the sea, because she teaches me.

The first thing my dad ever thought me about sea, was to never turn your back on her. When you’re in her waters you keep your eyes on her, you face into her waves and learn her rhythms.

Growing up in South Africa, my holidays were spent in, on or near her rough, unwavering waters. The African coast line is never calm. You have to fight you way in and fight your way out.

For me this is a lesson in life, though the calm times are the most enticing, it’s the rough one where we learn the most.

The excitement of a rollercoaster

Remember when you would stand in line to ride the latest rollercoaster? 🎢 Giddy with excitement & nerves, looking forward to the infinite ups & endless downs, oh & those bends that you couldn’t quite see around, those were the best.

Sure we were scared, maybe egged on by our friends & family, but we rode them, sometimes we even got straight back into the queue.

What if we looked at this slightly strange world as our own personal rollercoaster, ours to design & discover.

I’m going to try & embrace the ups, downs & all those bends that I can’t quite see around.

All safe in the knowledge that I’ll be encouraged & encouraging all my friends & family to embrace the ride & get excited about the future.

Stay safe, be kind & embrace all that 2021 has to offer.
