Most people notice colour first.
What they remember, whether they realise it or not, is cloth.
The weight of it. The softness or crispness of it. The way it falls on the body. The way it responds to movement, temperature, light, and wear. These things shape far more than appearance. They shape comfort, longevity, and whether a garment feels natural to wear at all.
This is why materials matter so much in tailoring. Wool, linen, cotton, cashmere, silk, blends, open weaves, tighter weaves, dry handles, softer handles, each one has a different purpose, a different behaviour, and a different kind of life.
A cloth can make a suit feel sharper, a shirt feel cooler, a trouser hang better, a jacket travel more easily, or a coat carry the right weight through the season. It is not just about how something looks on the hanger. It is about how it performs once it becomes part of a man’s wardrobe.
At Marc Oliver, choosing cloth is never treated as decoration. It is one of the most important decisions in the entire process, because good tailoring begins long before the garment is made.
