All aboard the Orient Express, but instead of a train, make it a sailing yacht (the largest sailing yacht in the world, to be clear.)
I was lucky enough to spend the past few days in Cannes getting an early look at the new Corinthian, the brand’s extraordinary sailing yacht set to debut next month. If the train has long represented one of the world’s greatest travel experiences, this is its sea-bound counterpart: the largest sailing yacht of its kind, with three remarkable folding masts rising more than 100 meterd into the sky.
Designed by the brilliant architect Maxime d’Angeac (pictured with me, Slide 1), the interiors translate the romance of the original Orient Express into a distinctly contemporary language: deep woods, polished obsidian stone, gleaming chrome accents, hand carved sculptural bas-relief panels with deco motifs, and sumptuous soft furnishings, tailored detailing and rich colors throughout. Did I mention that some of the suites come with the largest marble bathrooms I've ever seen at sea, with soaking tubs and teak floors and alabaster mirrors? You might never leave your room.
What struck me most is the scale paired with intimacy. With just 54 suites, Corinthian feels more like a floating five-star hotel than a cruise ship. A unique architectural lap pool, fabulous Guerlain spa, five restaurants including one helmed by , fully stocked library, cinema, and hidden speakeasy only reinforce what is a truly unique voyage on the water.
As someone who has always loved the magic of the Orient Express train, seeing this next chapter come to life was genuinely special. If you’ve been dreaming of going on the the train, perhaps the answer now is to do both: One by land and one by sea.
Thank you to the inimitable and the team for such a spectacular preview—and for a perfect few days in Cannes with some of my favorite friends. xo Whitney
