After an incredible few weeks in Australia we’re settling back into the new school term. I had planned on doing some WLP work while we were away, but I sacked that off in the first few days and just soaked up the joy of being home with all of my family.

It was such a treat as our last visit my husband couldn’t come and I had to do a two week hotel quarantine with the children (😬😬😬😬) before we were released into the country, so having all of my loved ones together was incredibly special.

I hope everyone is settling into the spring and getting excited for summer!

Favourite for day 7 of
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My favourite part of my process is letting go. There is only so much I am in control of when it comes to my process, but when the dye hits the ice that's where the real magic happens.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As the ice melts, the dye is carried in the drips of water and runs through the folds and peaks of the fabric, creating a time piece of the water flow. No two pieces are the same. Each garment is a work of art in and of itself.

Three things...about me! For day four.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was a nanny before becoming a mother. It was a brilliant job and one I sometimes miss (rarely did a night shift with my charges, my own children don’t love letting me get an uninterrupted night!). My knowledge of child development has fed so much into my product development for WLP and the ethos behind what the brand stands for.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm Australian, and so are both of my children. I moved to London when I was 22, and my husband and I did a few years back in Oz to have the children. It was a glorious few years and we're so lucky to be able to get back regularly for some family and beach time!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sewing was my life-line when healing from post-natal depression. I had dabbled with sewing before, but after birth injuries and severe post-natal depression, sewing (alongside therapy, physio, and family support!) was such a key to coming through a really difficult part of new-motherhood.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’d love to know a few things about you in the comments! 👇🏻

Day two of is .

ETHICAL. Both in terms of manufacturing (hi hi all me in my sewing room 🙋🏻‍♀️) and the materials I use in my garments. European linen is the one of the most sustainable options for garment making. It's not a cheap fabric, particularly not when I source from suppliers which have a transparent supply chain. Cheaper fabric usually means compromising on quality or ethics, something I’m not prepared to do.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HIGH QUALITY. As a perfectionist I just can't being myself to rush the finish on a garment. Properly bound necklines and armholes, hand finishing buttons are all little things which take extra time. But they're also the touches which mean a garment will last for years and be out-grown before it’s out-worn!

UNIQUE. Every garment is completely unique, just like the child who wears it.

My dream for Wild Little Pickles is to make clothes which are both functional and beautiful.

I believe children and parents deserve clothes which allow for trans-seasonal functionality and which let children play unhindered.

They deserve clothes with colours which are drawn from the wildness of nature, and inspire the children who wear them to embrace their curiosity. Clothes that encourage children to notice the small, beautiful details in their world.

To inspire them to never be tamed.

Struggle

There are so many struggles as a small business owner! Imposter syndrome, financial restrictions, having to learn myriad skills (photography, marketing, SEO, book keeping, just to name a few). In many cases those learning curves come alongside full time jobs or (as in my case) full time parenting, often with no childcare. But you know what? Those struggles have all taught me/are teaching me such valuable skills, and in turn my children are watching their mother grow a small business she believes in.

And until hiring a model and a photographer becomes an option for me, my kids and I get to have some great fun dancing around to Taylor Swift and taking silly photos.

Sunrise 🌅

This colour-way was born when a woman contacted me and asked me to make a birthday dress for her almost 10 year old daughter. Her daughter was tall for her age and struggled to find clothing that fit her tall body, which still looked like clothing for a child rather than a teen. She also suffered from very sensitive skin, so linen was the perfect fabric to keep her comfortable and avoid eczema flare-ups.

All her daughter said she wanted was a birthday dress with the colours of a sunrise. And so the sunrise colour-way was named.

Creating unique garments which bring so much joy to the children who wear them is such a privilege.
