Nothing begins as a finished object. It is a process of looking, questioning and refining. The smallest adjustment can change the entire character of a shoe.

This is an early prototype of Skye. She shares the same asymmetric last as Josie. The last is the foot-shaped form every shoe is built around, it establishes the silhouette, proportion and fit before anything else.

Now the conversation begins. The whipstitch will become lighter. The bow at the centre front more precise. The fit will be tested. Each change is subtle, but together they shift the balance completely.

Good design is rarely about making more. It is about knowing what to leave, what to change, and when to stop.
