Took the wee one out for a Daddy Daughter day up Knockhill Racing Circuit on Sunday for the Rewind Classic Motorcycle Festival

You have to think tactically in these situations, and anticipating a day of mixed weather, and mixed levels of enthusiasm from my small companion…we parked up nose first to the start/finish straight, just along from the pits - and almost as importantly, the playpark. Something for me, something for her, and a handy base to return to to watch the racing from the car when the aforementioned enthusiasm inevitably ebbed away…

Man I love just pottering round the pits enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of old race bikes…even though I don’t even know what I’m looking at half the time…

…full disclosure. I do not own a chopper. Never have. In fact, I’ve never even ridden one - unless you count my purple Raleigh Budgie when I was 10…or my mate Max’s sportster (coincidentally, that was round the camping field at a later edition of the Trip Out when I nearly lost the back end on the grass)…

My total lack of chopper credentials led to more than a little apprehension back in 2012 when I rocked up to Scald End Farm in my compact German executive daily driver for Trip Out No.1...

I can’t even really remember how I heard about it…maybe I picked up a b**r soaked flyer from the veranda at that years Hot Rod Hayride…

Regardless, despite my mate and I not knowing anyone else there, or anything about choppers, hot rods or muscle cars, from the moment we pitched up any lingering traces of imposter syndrome were rapidly banished by the amazing people and totally chilled out vibe of the weekend. It’s a core (slightly hazy) memory.

Stoked it’s still going strong - Anna porter Andy Porter and the whole team do an amazing job…

Throwing in a Dirt Quake shaped curve ball for this weeks archive raid…

Back in 2016… that’s 10 years ago by the way…Guy Martin Racing rode this awesome long fork chop built by Krazy Horse in one of the maddest races I’ve witnessed.

Who knows what path global motorcycle culture might have taken had sideburnmag Dirt Quake never existed…

It would be a much more boring one for sure.
