Here’s what we recommend as dentists:

💫 Keep sweet treats to mealtimes rather than grazing throughout the day. Frequent sugar exposure increases the number of acid attacks on enamel.

💫 Choose fresh fruits like strawberries or berries over sticky sweets and chewies, which cling to teeth for longer.

💫 Offer water after sweet treats and ice creams to help rinse away sugars and support enamel.

💫 Dairy matters. Milk or cheese after sugary snacks can help neutralise acids in the mouth and support strong teeth with calcium.

💫 Don’t brush immediately after sweets or acidic foods. Wait at least 30 minutes before brushing, as enamel temporarily softens after sugar and acid exposure.

💫 Stick to brushing twice daily- morning and bedtime- using a fluoride toothpaste appropriate for your child’s age.

A balanced approach helps children enjoy the fun of half term while protecting growing smiles long term 🤍

In the UK, tooth decay is still the number one reason children are admitted to hospital, despite being largely preventable. 🦷

That’s why healthy habits from the very beginning matter so much.

We know that’s not always easy with little ones, but it’s always worth aiming for.
Our Little Brushies nursery rhyme timer makes the dentist-recommended brushing time much easier (and much more fun) to stick to.

It’s great to encourage their independence, so let them start off themselves, but remember dentists recommend parents/carers assist with brushing until around age 7 for effective cleaning.
