The very last indigo Shibori workshop of my Japan trip was Origami Shibori 💙

Although I have a book on this particular technique, I had never actually tried it before, so I was really excited to finally learn it.
I was so fortunate that a workshop by Hiroko Ando sensei’s team was being held in Shibuya. The workshop I joined was a beginners’ class and wasn’t taught by Ando sensei herself, but I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk with her afterwards 🙏🏼💙 I was super nervous meeting a Shibori legend! ✨

And just like that, my summer break is coming to an end. I think I’m finally ready to get back to creating new pieces and, once I’m back in London, to holding more workshops of my own 💪🏼💙

Feeling inspired, grateful, and very excited for what’s to come. ✨

I had another fantastic experience this year learning Bokashi — gradation Shibori — from indigo dye master Murata san 藍染工房 壺草苑 💙

The time was short, and this technique is truly challenging, but I learned so much from Murata san and his incredibly skilled and helpful team 🙏🏼
I can’t thank them enough for their kindness and dedication 💙 Watching the care, patience and passion they put into their work reminded me once again just how precious and special their craft is.

Feeling so blessed and grateful for this unforgettable opportunity. I can’t wait to create something special using this beautiful technique 💙🩵🤍

Tokushima 💙💙 — the heartland of indigo dyeing and sukumo. I returned to this beautiful place to learn three more shibori techniques from Makiko-san 🙌🏼

Makiko-san is so passionate about shibori and indigo dyeing, and generous in sharing her knowledge. She and Martin-san welcomed me with open hearts and such warmth and kindness, making this another truly precious experience. I will cherish every moment spent with them and look forward to creating pieces using the techniques I learned from Makiko-san. 💙

Feeling so blessed, grateful, and incredibly lucky to have had all the experiences in Japan✨🙏🏼

ARIMATSU — a truly unforgettable experience ✨

I returned to Arimatsu, Nagoya, to Suzusan for a very special opportunity: learning traditional Shibori techniques directly from a legendary artisan with 80 years of experience. 💙

The technique was incredibly challenging, but being able to learn from someone who has dedicated a lifetime to mastering this craft was such a rare and humbling experience. I feel truly grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest artisans in the field.

This is an experience I will never forget, and I can’t wait to start creating pieces using the technique I learned. ✨
