Casino night celebrates RNLI birthday

It might not be Monte-Carlo, but the Woodmead Halls in Lyme Regis will take on a distinct Casino Royale flavour on May 11th thanks to the crew of the town’s RNLI lifeboat.

A casino night is planned as a celebration of the RNLI’s 200th anniversary this year. “The event is a first for us and on this occasion it is not a fundraiser for our charity,” said organiser Petrina Muscroft. “It is just a good value fun evening ,and visitors and residents are all welcome.”

The evening includes full size casino equipment with a professional croupier overseeing the games of blackjack and roulette which start at 7.30pm.

A glass of fizz and canapes on arrival will be followed by a supply of chips for play at the tables, and a £100 voucher for the award winning Millside restaurant awaits the evening’s top performer.

Tickets at £15 are available at the RNLI shop next to the lifeboat station and the Baby Boutique at the bottom of Broad Street.

Lifeboat blue flares announce :‘It’s a boy!’

Lyme Regis lifeboat crew member Seb Cope decided on a novel way to reveal the s*x of the baby he and his fiancée are expecting in a few months’ time.

He held an American-style gender reveal event, but with a difference.

He got special permission today (Sunday) to stage the event on the town’s RNLI lifeboat.

While he was aboard the lifeboat his fiancée Abbie Cook was on the north wall of the Cobb harbour watching with crowds as blue flares signalled that the couple are expecting a boy.

Seb said: “It was simply a fun way to announce a big event in our lives and we are both absolutely delighted.”

Appropriately, Abbie happens to be the owner of the Baby Boutique in Lyme Regis.
