Sylvan Designs Sewn crafts and bespoke heirloom quilts What is an heirloom quilt? So any quilt that has been handed down within the family is an heirloom.

There are many explanations to be found online, but I like this one:
“An heirloom is a family possession that's handed down from one generation to the next. Often we tell someone that their quilt is an heirloom even though it's new, meaning that it is of the quality to be appreciated and handed down within the family.”
My quilts are made with 100% cotton fabric, batting (the inner bit!) and thread

. Some are completely hand sewn, although in order to keep costs down I will machine piece the patchwork top to save time. Choice of colour is down to the customer, along with an idea of pattern/design or this can be left to me. I will discuss your quilt at length with you in order that the finished product best meets your expectation. Quite a popular idea is to use fabrics which you already have – for example, your child’s clothing which has been outgrown can be made into a memory quilt, a special reminder for you (or them) which marks their early years. Another very special idea is to use clothing which belonged to a family member or friend who has passed away and make it into a memory quilt which can be kept forever. I recently made on of these out of several shirts and it was beautiful when finished. I am happy to answer any of your queries and chat about your specific requirements.

Finally felt like sewing (I haven't wanted to since making scrubs and scrub hats last year) & made a little apron and chef's hat for a special little 6 year old. I made some small bunting with the left over fabric too. She is very happy with it 😁👍
