Finknottle's Parlour

Finknottle's Parlour Jane's stuff. Kinda bloggy, knitty, hooky, sewy, occasionally cakey.

My yarny resolutions for 2026 were to improve my colour work, and make garments for myself.
This hits both resolutions! 🥳

A test knit for Grey Owl Knits, the Blossoming Sweater was a joy to knit and the pattern is published today, June 1st. It’s so well written, at no point did I go “Eh? What?” as the instructions and pattern are so clear.

What I learned:
*Not to use yarn with a high silk percentage for colour work as it’s waaaaay too slippy (but it does feel beautiful).
*Knitting 3 colours at the same time in stranded work isn’t as hard as I thought it was. Who knew?!
*Not to get cross when you do one stitch the wrong colour as a quick Swiss darn (or duplicate stitch, depending on how old you are) fixes most things.

If you want details of the yarns used, you can find them on my Ravelry project page - search for MissJaney

A Finknottle excursion over to Manchester Wool & Yarn where Gareth showed us how to knit intarsia colour work without any holes (no more sneaky darning!), provided plenty of hints and tips plus lots of good ol’ knitting chat and goss.

A very civilised Sunday afternoon ☺️

So long since the machine had some exercise, I’m enjoying this!

I know this may look like a form of torture to some people, but I do love colour work 💕 it’s very satisfying seeing the pattern appear.

I’m enjoying this test knit for Grey Owl Knits. I’m a bit further along than this now, and contemplating having short sleeves so I don’t have to wait until autumn to wear it 🤔

The route home from the tulip festival was a little convoluted, via the wonderful Hoop shop where yarn squishing and pocket money spending may have happened….🥰

I always take a straightforward project to the Sale Yarnistas meet-ups at Caldo Lounge
because there’s always more yapping than hooking or knitting 😁
