After 4 years in business, I’ve decided to close down Banafshaa. It does make me a little sad that we couldn’t take off as planned, but I’m really content because it has been an incredible experience.

I’m still interested in modest fashion and making it accessible, so I may return in the future with something bigger and better InshAllah. But for now, it’s time to go.

I happen to be obsessed with white hijabs. This particular one is my favourite from our Daywear collection called Snowflake. Ironically, it’s what I wear the most in summer or when I am on a vacation.

Feeling blessed, Alhumdulillah! ✨

I’ll be honest, when I first started my business, I had no idea how to even use Instagram. I never used it for personal use even though I had an account. My page was pretty impersonal and the photos weren’t great. I couldn’t figure out the hashtags. Well, I’m still figuring that one out tbh. 🙈 Point is, it’s a world that I enjoy being a part of, but I’ve wanted to give up on numerous occasions. I still toy with that idea because it’s just so competitive. And when you’re trying to take a simpler route to get to where you need to be, then it’s often that much more arduous.

But you know what keeps me from quitting? First and foremost my passion for hijabs. Second, and perhaps the most important one, is the incredible community that I get to be a part of here.

During a time when I was protecting myself from toxic environments, I have bumped into some incredibly talented, inspiring and beautiful souls right here on Instagram. Women that uplift each other, that emanate positivity and the ones that remind you of your deen (faith).

I consider myself to be so fortunate to have met some of them in person. And it’s always felt like I’ve known them much longer SubhanAllah!

Thank you to each and everyone of you that continues to inspire me through your hard work and your kind heart. You inspire me to be a better version of myself. 💗

It’s World Hijab Day! 🧕🏽

Some of you may wonder why we even need a day dedicated to hijab, but I do feel it’s an important one. Not only because women in hijab need acceptance, but what’s lacking is respect for our choice to wear a hijab. The ignorance, the hypocrisy and the judgment needs to stop. It’s no wonder that so many women succumb to the pressure and give it up.

Yes, in some families women may be forced to wear it, but a majority of us CHOOSE to wear it. It’s an essential part of our faith, an obligation to dress modestly among many other things.

And until teachers and students aren’t banned from wearing hijab in classrooms, until countries allow its Muslim citizens to practice their faith and wear their hijab in public spaces and when political leaders stop referring to veiled women as letterboxes, we will continue to celebrate World Hijab Day.

More power to all the hijabi women making their presence felt in several industries today. You’re an inspiration! 💪🏽

Nothing compares to being inside Makkah and standing in front of the Kaaba. Words can’t describe the kind of peace felt inside this beautiful masjid/mosque. I can’t believe it’s already been 1.5 months since I was there and already, I’m yearning to go again.

The little miracles that you experience while there are unique to visiting the holy city of Makkah. One such miracle for me was that I mentioned to my husband I wanted at least one prayer to be led by Imam Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais. That very night, he led the prayer, following three other nights. SubhanAllah! 🥺

A big part of my childhood was visiting the holy cities. Makkah was a regular stop for us where we spent hours without any kind of restrictions that exist today. Imam Sudais’ voice was a significant part of those memories. Whenever I listen to his recitation, it takes me back to Makkah. To those unadulterated memories and times when we could touch the Kaaba, climb on top of parts of Safa and Marwa (today, hardly anything remains inside of the two mountains and they’re inaccessible). There were no mobile phones to distract us. There weren’t any malls outside the masjid or the numerous fast-food joints that have popped up since then. Everything was pure.

This is the real test of our times, to be remain sincere. To ensure our faith too remains intact despite the various distractions around us. I pray that Allah guides us all and keeps us steadfast because without His guidance we would always remain lost. Ameen ❤️

Start your day with positive affirmations and remind yourself of how beautiful you are. When you start believing it, others will too.

I have always struggled with this and I don’t really know how to take a compliment when it comes to the way I look, but it’s a constant work-in-progress.

I feel beautiful when I’m fulfilled from within because that’s when I’m most content. And for me, those two go hand in hand.

So choose happiness first, the rest will fall into place.
