“This your fourth, you’ll be a pro at this now”. “You probably know all of this anyway”.
These are just some of the comments that I’ve come across since having my fourth and the truth is, I wasn’t a pro. I was still a overwhelmed mess like many new mums, I would just stick on a smile and plod on as if everything was fine. I think people including health professionals often forget that being a mum of multiple children doesn’t mean that ‘you’ve got this in the bag’ in reality the ‘bag’ is overflowing and often at breaking point. I’m extremely lucky to have great help from my extended family but even with that support you can still feel yourself struggling.
The fourth trimester this time hit hard not like the others but after five months in, I finally feel like I’m getting somewhere.
Why does my baby cry all the time I asked the doctor, his nappies are really loose all the time too. Her response, some babies are just grumpy, the baby is adjusting to breast milk 🤷🏽♀️. I’ve dealt with colic with my first but this crying was on a different level, it was most of the day and everyday. It was ear piercing and nothing would settle it.
I came across a great post on the fourth trimester by the lovely and I came to the conclusion that maybe my son has CMPA. As soon as I cut out the diary I noticed a massive difference in his crying and his nappies. I’m now at the point where I’m worried that he isn’t pooing enough. His crying has reduced massively too. Life has somewhat become sane again! We’ve been referred to a dietician now to help with the next stage which is weaning. Being dairy free whilst nursing isn’t easy but in this day and age where there are so many alternatives, it doesn’t really feel like you are missing out.
Mums whether it’s your first, second or sixth, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed don’t let social media or anyone else tell you otherwise. Friends don’t forget to check in on your new mum’s, that one check in could make all the difference ❤️
