• Stone Island has long been synonymous with Naples, long betore the brand ever had a retail footprint in the city. The city’s appreciation for the brand has always carried a bit of mystery around it, a cloak and dagger, if you know you know presence surrounding the place to find the best vintage pieces. Often reserved for those local to Naples or those ushered into the scene through connections and relationships.
To celebrate the opening of its new Naples flagship, Stone Island are lifting the lid on that story with a short documentary titled “A Sorpres” directed by putting a spotlight on the people whose passion has long been searching for the badge.
Locals describe finding it as discovering the “golden heart” amongst piles of military surplus and vintage clothing. Something rare. Something never guaranteed.
That search often led to Resina, now known as Ercolano, a town just outside Naples and home to the famous Mercato di Resina vintage market. A place where generations have gone digging through le pezze the piles hoping to uncover archival Stone Island.
For many, it became a pilgrimage. A place long kept as a local secret and arguably one of the best places in the world to source vintage Stone Island.
Because in Naples, finding the badge was always a surprise. ‘A sorpres.
