I did a whole process videos for these, all sped up peeling off the scratch protection with a big reveal at the end and the edits app didn't save it. So here are 2 average pictures of some work that I'm actually really proud of, that took a fair bit of thinking, refining and steady hands to get looking as best they can.

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of spending the day in the studio with eleven year old twins Drew and Sophia. Both home educated, this was a chance to access a bespoke design and technology session to not only learn about resistant materials and design, but both go home with a finished product.

Drew made a hand-layered sign for his pet beetles. Orange back plate, black lettering, mirrored blue beetles, bronze mirror millipede. We explored fonts, acrylic colours, finishes and how they would all contrast and stand out against each other. He then weighed up his bonding options and chose to work with VHB tape over glue which meant his sign needed no drying time. He pressed start on the laser, and then sat and assembled the whole thing with superb precision.

Sophia made a Sour Patch Kids necklace. Three pendants — red, orange, and yellow mirror acrylic — each one engraved with detail she'd drawn herself, infilled with black paint, and assembled holding hands. One for her mum. One for Drew. One for her. We finished it off with wood backplates so it looked professional and then assembled it with jewellery pliers and jump rings. It was such a gorgeous idea, a little sour patch kid family, and the finished necklace is just brilliant.

Drew also made himself a mirrored blue beetle necklace. It was supposed to be for his Nanny. He took one look at the finished thing and changed his mind, wanting to keep it. I completely understand, I would want to keep that too.

Big shout out to Bently the mill dog. He was on movement break duty all day and took his responsibilities very seriously.

These design, cut and create days are built for children who learn by doing. Every child who comes through leaves with a finished, handmade piece — and their family receives a full written session report and an educational learning record documenting every skill covered, ready to use as part of their home education records.

Today we're sadly saying goodbye to our gorgeous Bernard. 

She was dumped in a box as a kitten, we never had plans to have a cat, but the universe had other ideas and what a wonderful addition to our family unit she has been. 

Such a gentle, patient loving soul. I never thought I would miss hoovering up heroic amounts of cat hair, and I've been taken a bit off guard about how hard I've found navigating her last few months as she has been so poorly. It's been very very sad but I feel so lucky and grateful that chance brought her to us together in the first place. ❤️

I can't tell you how well timed this order dropping into my Etsy was last week. I was feeling a bit flat and negative and couldn't seem to shake it off. Then this order came in, in bright bubblegum pink with silver earwires and It was the sign I needed to shake it off. So thank you to that lovely customer for sending that through with impeccable timing.

I need your help here - my colour blindness is kicking in.

This gives you a little insight into the tiny nuances that change in the development process. A bit more detail here, removal of some detail I only notice after cutting, rethinking how things fit together and.... colour.

I know that I want the sunflower in the bright yellow mirror - but I can't seem to decide which green would go best with it. Can you have a look at the pics and let me know what you think? The other option is to keep it simple and just work with the graphic sunflower and no contrasting acrylics. Decisions Decisions!
