For over eight years now I've run sewing classes .. starting at the Faff Rooms, Mansfield Woodhouse - Firstly at Carr Bank Manor and at Burnaby House, next to the lovely Saville House School. Our next venue was the Bethel Methodist Church, Nottingham Road, Mansfield and I have now moved to 20 White Hart Street, Mansfield NG18 1DG to a lovely little workshop with plenty of parking close by. The cla
sses are a continuation of the Faff sessions and the Dressmaking classes, welcoming absolute beginners through to advanced dressmakers. It's given some of our ladies who weren't as confident the opportunity to really blossom and start to love sewing and dressmaking. Come along with your own project and receive guidance through the tricky bits - or to a specific course. With everything from how to put in various types of zips, pockets, and collars - through to "the perfect fit skirt" and "the perfect fit trousers" where you will learn to make a "block" to your measurements, make a calico toile and a finished garment - I promise you, you'll be hooked when you realise what you can do once you master the basics! Our past courses have included: making shirts, waistcoats, jackets and even corsets! My background is in Bridal Wear, including full bridal construction, children's wear and gentleman's tailoring, and I have worked in design and development for high street suppliers and worked on a collection for Fearne Cotton girlswear. My education background is in Fashion and Design, Soft Furnishing and Upholstery and Professional Interior Design,
I'm very happy to pass on my knowledge and "tricks of the trade" to ensure your garments have a professional finish. Most recently I`ve embraced recycling and repurposing preloved garments and fabrics after working closely with Veolia at their Forest Town site, delivering free craft courses for the Nottinghamshire region with the aim of keeping fabrics from our recycle bins. Check out www.veolia.co.uk/nottinghamshire/community/upcoming-events/make-do-and-mend-workshop if you`d like to join in with the third year of this fab project! If you would like to join us, either at a class , Veolia “make do and mend”or simply ask advice on any of your existing projects, I'm very happy to assist.
